Coming Soon: The Nokia 5230

While we aren’t always able to announce products or services before they’re available, we’re very pleased to give you a sneak peek at the Nokia 5230, coming to a WIND Mobile store near you in the next few weeks.

We’re keeping competitive details like price and launch date hush-hush for now—but take a look at all these great features...

Texting & email on the go:

  • Virtual QWERTY keyboard with dual display – just rotate your Nokia from portrait to landscape to change the orientation
  • Handwrite messages directly on the touchscreen

Mobile apps you want and need:
  • Multi-tasking music - listen while you're using other phone functions
  • No-charge Nokia Ovi Maps for worldwide voice-guided navigation
  • Tap into the Ovi App centre for 1,000s more Nokia-compatible apps
  • Learn more at Nokia.ca

We got the scoop from Richard White, Nokia Canada’s GM, “The Nokia 5230 is designed for anyone who wants to have a stylish device that allows them to find their way, discover new content and stay connected to their social networks at all times. We are pleased to offer this smartphone for the first time to our Canadian customers through WIND Mobile.”

In other Nokia news, while we really like the N900, this phone won’t be offered by Nokia in Canada. Before you get disappointed, we do have good news if you’re thinking of getting one: you can still take advantage of our best rates on 3G data for the N900. @jaspert. It is official, it's called MeeGo 1.0, however it's still too early to determine if Nokia will be smart enough to allow previous N900 users to upgrade the software, dual boot, or completely render old N900 units useless. It might happen around May, check http://www.engadget.com

@Damienmsob Thanks for the link, I appreciate it. However, this does not support Getzel's post that Wind is not offering the N900 because their Blackberry's are not selling. That's the basis of my comment. I can see that there is new software on Nokia's part and that in itself could be the reason Wind will not offer it.

@Getzel I am not a fan of mud slinging, especially without facts. We know about the MeeGo now, what about the other accusations?

Personally, I think that we were lucky to be let in the loop early this time of new offerings and should not whine and make "conspiracy" theories sound factual without facts. At the end of the day, as Wind says, "you are here because you want to be, not because you have to be." With the random person complaining about this and that with Wind...If you are unhappy, just move along to a contract carrier. For the most part, I'd say that Wind has done a great job (they are not superman though.)

@ArtBungler It's all well and good to say "We want a better cheaper data plan" but don't go comparing to Rogers' $10 plan. That plan is for WAP browsing, which no Wind phones resort to. They're all full HTML. And the company isn't trying to "milk" anything. I'd like to see you try to come up with a good mid-range plan that's cost effective for the company while still sticking to the general pricing plan that Wind offers.

You get the first month for free...Then you get 5 monthly credits of $30 (for porting over.) So, as long as the phone arrive by the end of May, you are still good. There really is no point in waiting to join Wind, just do it.

I terminated my contract with my current provider early when I read this. Anxiously waiting for its arrival but nervous over its price.... :P
