How are we doing?

So I'm thinking...

A Fond Farewell to My Fellow Former Expat

It was over a year and a half ago that I sat down at an outside cafe in Vilnius to meet Chris Robbins. Chris and I had been colleagues and friends at Vodafone and TIW. Under the Baltic sun we talked about a plan to bring a new wireless experience to Canadians. I had just accepted a new gig that would bring me back to Canada for the first time in 17 years and wanted Chris to join me on this crazy trip. Chris was excited and inspired and as a long time expat as well, he wanted to create something new and exciting in his home and native land.

Well, it is 18 months later and he has accomplished that goal. There have been hurdles and challenges but Chris has tackled them head on. He shaped our brand and our proposition and has built an exceptional team here at WIND.

As we move to the next stage of our early life as a company, Chris will be moving on. He will be sorely missed by me and the team here at WIND but he leaves secure in the fact that he has brought change and a new day in wireless to Canadians.

Ciao Christopher... Miss you buddy!

Ken, only due to your mention of Vilnius (my hometown) I found out you came from Bite GSM! Now I am even more confident in Wind, since its CEO knows what highly saturated mobile market looks like. ;)

I am not Wind customer yet, but I am closely watching your offers. There's no value switching to Wind with my minimal plan I use now, I would even have to buy slightly worse phone than my 4 year old SE K750i that came with me from Lithuania. As for smartphones, I am hoping you'll have Android ones, but only those worth the money :)

Oh, and good luck to Chris!

Chris was the only person who honestly answered questions. Who will get port blocking fixed now?

Oh oh. 2 suggestions to add customers - Unlimited BBM & Email in home zone for $10/month. Competitors offer it at $15/month. Throw in a $15/month data plan that has unlimited BBM & Email, plus social apps (Facebook, mySpace, Twitter). Your current data plan only has value to heavy data users. Should be easy to implement because you don't need to calculate data useage.

Thanks Maggie, but I suspect your team has run numbers on many different scenarios. The key is to find the sweet spot that brings in a tide of customers (difficult to model psychology). People who buy the data will also op for a voice plan. Your voice plans (while there may only be limited offerings) are competitive. People want value in voice + data. Cliché, but if you build it, they will come. Customers will be more tolerant of instability if they feel they are getting a bargain.
