It's screen lock/unlock switch. When your screen times out and blanks you can either tap on the screen to bring it back, or use the switch.
@ A: Thank you. I have given that advice to several people many times.
Then I came to the conclusion that I was not helping anyone, but came through as a less-than-helpful person.
I received a 23-page booklet with the phone, and have a 111-page one on my computer. I looked for that switch, but did not find it - overlooked it, I guess I should say.
@ WindyN900: Thanks! I find that I will probably spend the next seven days trying to figure out all that the N900 will do just as a computer.
I won't activate it as a phone for a bit - at least ill I'm fully familiar with it.
Bottom line: I should probably ask my questions on HoFo - it is not really a WIND subject.
Cheers!

no... goto talk.maemo.org that is the nokia sponsored forum to the N900 and its maemo OS
Yeah I didn't find out what that switch did or even noticed it till a few days into my usage. During that time I was using the power button to lock/unlock my phone.
I actually never read the user manual. I probably should since there's so much goodies in this thing. You know when you run some apps, it will continue running and updating the preview screens where you switch apps.
