That doesnt seem like a power grab. The CRTC wants High Speed internet available in all Rural areas, and The Big 3 want to do that using mobile broadband, the CRTC just wants to regulate it like they do everything else

So would you say this is part of the motive to merge Broadcast and Telecom?

I ask that question because so far, in section 2 of CRTC report, the concern being expressed by the CRTC is that regulated players and new unregulated entrants are gaining revenue while only the regulated players have to bear the responsibility of service and social obligations (e.g. funding regimes). On the access side, horizontal and vertical integration in the communications industry is occurring, in part, as a response to fragmentation. Integration has the potential to reduce competition and the diversity of voices.

Mind you, I don't necessarily buy into that, but I guess I am trying to think of the benefits of combining Broadcast and Telecom. Is it an agenda or will there be benefit?

The only effect that the CRTC has with all their regulation is to raise the cost of entry so high that only established players will be able to afford to join. It basically enforces monopolistic practices.

The CRTC should be demolished. It does NOT work.
