a 3 year contract is a choice not a mandate.. pay for your device up front like many in Europe do....

Bubba1a, that's ridiculous, in Europe the non-contract prices are way lower than they are here. And on-contract 2-year contracts they pretty much get the highest end phones for free. While we here can only afford the phones if we get them on 3-year contracts and they still cost a fortune!

    @ Bubba1a
I do pay for my phone up front. Not from Rogers I buy it online but I still need so sign a 3 year contract to get a decent plan...

Also, in EU you can buy a phone and use it with any carrier. In Canada, you buy a phone, but can only use it with one carrier. What's the point in that? If I want a Blackberry or other nice phone, I need a 3 year contract here. Not so in EU/USA.

iPhones are unlocked in the EU country I was in, and you could get an iphone for 99 dollars on a 1 year contract (still unlocked), with extremely cheap data and voice, all for less than 30 dollars a month, no long distance charges, no charge for incoming at any time, .03 cents a text... I could go to a convenience store and buy a SIM card for 4 euros, and talk for over 6 hours to anyone else using the same company.

give me a break, Canada sucks for wireless.

If you don't want a contract, and want to buy your phone in Canada, YOU ARE STILL LOCKED INTO A SERVICE PROVIDER BECAUSE YOU CANT USE THE PHONE ON ANOTHER COMPANY.

So you are basically locked in again. 3 year contract or spend 700 for a phone you can only use with us anyways.

    Retarded.
