it's damn near impossible to organize anything as a University student without a cellphone since that's really the only guaranteed way to contact people moving about campus. Plus, it's a security thing, especially since My School is basically on top of a mountain, if I'm ever stranded by snow or any thing else I need to be able to contact someone (it's not very nice if I just disappear for 2 or 3 days without contacting anyone).
I mean it's not like I would literally be unable to function without a cellphone, I'll just be severely handicapped and inconvenienced.
Hey, there's no such thing as not being able to live without it.
We used to live without landline telephones (perhaps not you, but I did), email, computers etc.
However: We use the technology that's available to us, and get used to it.
Myself, I used cell phones for 15 or so years before I retired 18 years ago (worked for Bell). (And no, I don't have a Bell cell phone now).
Now, my wife is severely mobility-challenged (wouldn't quite use the word "handicapped").
I drop her off at a store with her walker, and when she's finished, she calls me.
I drive her to the hairdresser, and when she's finished, she calls me.
Could we live without mobiles? Of course we could - but it would severely reduce the quality of life - and her independence
(BTW, it was also very handy when on New Year's eve 2000 I rolled the car into a ditch in a high snow drift on a country road).
I do live without a cell phone in Canada, even though I have one for when I'm visiting Europe. I would love to have one here too, but every time I review the offers of the current companies I feel like someone tries to take an advantage of me.
Somehow I don't think I'm the only one like this....
