A friend of mine has an iphone and was in the middle east a few weeks ago. he said he had no service the hole time he was there. (thanks rogers) when he actual got a connetion. he used his data to check his email for work. he said he was maybe on for 5 minutes. his bill was like $500 just for his data. that is soooo outrageous, who could afford to use it when you travel for work. they might as well just have an app that showes your money draining out of you bank account. or an app of some one kicking you in the gluteus maximus for every second you are online. just a painfull
@nuckhead. Well he should of gotten a roaming package.
But one thing that is true about this is providers are not educating people about how data works. People think they have 1Gig and its good anywhere.
One thing I hope (and know) Wind will do, is explain their plans to customers properly. Most providers just play "hide and go seek" when you have questions.
So yes, I feel sorry for your friend. But really all the providers do this..
By the way. Speaking of this video, I have got a treat for you guys. ...
Just wait for a real video I WILL post to this blog about me destroying my Cell phone!
Once Wind launches and I get my new phone, I will post a live video of my old phone's "destruction"...
oh i know. he normally doesn't travel out of north america but. he got a job offer that he couldn't pass up. and he said he never used his phone for most of the time he was away cause he had no service but he got nailed when he did use it.
my point is and you stated it very well hide and seek. or don't ask we won't tell. but it is just another way to rip ya off. i guess it is our own fault we asume to much with wireless providers. and they won't tell you the bad news until your in a 3 year contract.
Thanks mccans......you never disappoint. @nuckhead.....I use my Blackberry when I'm in the states and get nailed with costs. The only solution to that is to purchase a phone for when you are there and load it with minutes.
ya, i have friend who lives in the states and his parents have a us cell phone for when they call him and travel down there. cause its cheaper to have that phone and for when they travel. then here.
@ Tammy Well the only sure way is to turn "Data off when Roaming" alot of phones have that option.
I only have data on my phone because I need it. When I go across he boarder I turn data off.
Good tip mccans.....I'll have to figure that one out. Thanks!
I buy a prepaid Virgin mobile USA phone when I travel in the states. It's amazing that it's cheaper for me to buy actual hardware along with the minutes, than to use my Blackberry while travelling south of the border.
