Forget contracts altogether, the only reason they exist is because of phone subsidies and greed.
Koodo's tab system is actually quite good.
@ohzopants I agree though koodo's tab system emulates a contract in some aspects (deposit x amount towards the phone and pay off the deposit every month with 10% of your bill) it makes for a very little cancellation fee. (the cancellation fee is the deposit balance (if any) in negatives)
I'm still stuck with rogers -- hate it. Wish I could upgrade my phone but......... then i'll get pulled in for another 3 years -___-
Guess, I'm just gonna have to wait it out till next year.....
Ghouse & ohozpants:
Please take a look at my comments from another post about contracts:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The current contract system is unfair to those who bring their own handsets They don't get a discount for NOT getting a free phone, even if they stay with the company as long as a person who signs a contract.
Also, if two customers get different free phones - one cheaper than the other in the market - in return for signing a contract of the SAME length, how's that fair to the customer who picked the cheaper phone?
There are two solutions:
1. Koodo Tab System takes care of this unfairness. It takes the cost of the phone into account, and also works for those who pay for the phone in full.
2. An alternative is to provide financing, so that the customer can pay in small installments until the phone is paid off. Just like Future Shop provides financing for a flat-screen TV.

Yeah 3year contracts should be illegal. A phone is subsidized over 2 years easily ... carriers throw in the extra year to squeeze more dollars from you.
