How are we doing?

So I'm thinking...

    My parents, who are seniors and live in the US, have cancelled their home phone service and now each own a cell phone. I can get in touch with them from Canada whenever I need to wherever they happen to be travelling to. Their 2 cell phone plans with long distance are a much cheaper option for them and are significantly less than I pay here in Canada. It's disgusting that in this "civilized" country we are being so taken advantage of!

    Does wind really want seniors? Not exactly what you call cream of the crop customers. On fixed income, wanting to pay the minimum, lots of questions all the time, doesn't sound like a profitable group. I could be wrong.

    @Conan1,
    Are you serious? Seniors are a great group to sell to. Sure lots are on a fixed income, but there are also a ton where that fixed income is significant. No Kids, the house is paid for, and lots of time on their hands.

    As far as a basic user goes, seniors are perfect.

    Conan makes a valid point, except he missed to call out that revenue from this group is likely far less than a younger generation.

    It's the "squeaky wheel gets the grease" syndrome.

    The only segment of the senior population that we hear about is the portion barely scraping by with the government pension, and the only portion of teenagers that we hear about are the ones with superfluous income. You hear about the trust fund kids and the impoverished seniors. You don't hear about the well off retirees or the poor teenagers.

    80% of the money lies with 20 percent of the demographic. No cares about marketing to the 80% that have no money.

    You may well be right Conan1, we may be a poor market. If that's the way it turns out that's OK, I'll have 1 less monthly bill and 1 less gadget to worry about losing!

    Because of the cable companies' bundling policies, I watch about 1 hour/day TV and pay for "Basic" only. Gives me a lot more time and money and I can get all my news online, use VoIP and go fishing, to a hockey game or the local stock car track for entertainment.

    Its also great for the stress level.
