(requires driving)
You can order a Nokia N900 from newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875205178
Shipping is free and their seems to be no taxes when shipping to New York State.
newegg.com will not let you ship to Canada, but you can use this service
http://www.usaddressinc.com/ to ship it close to the Canadian-US border. I have no experience with this company but their seems to be a $5 fee.
Now the driving time. You can drive to the USA Address location, pick it up, and return back to Canada with it.
What are your thoughts on this. If you don't mind some driving and waiting at the border, I think this is the best deal you will find. Has anyone else found a deal for the N900?
@Ron Thanxs, but if you order from a US website don't you need a US credit card? Your address idea will work-just not sure about the credit card.
@mccans
Damn I didn't know you can't pay with a Canadian credit Card. I guess this would only work if you have family or a friend in the US.
Hmm, no I don't think that's the cheapest way. You can consider going to Pacific Mall at Kennedy and Steeles and checking out their prices.
@DeathAbyss
I don't know but I don't think anyone at Pacific Mall has them yet. Their in pretty high demand for now at least. If you do see them or anyone else does post a message specifying the price and location.
Hey, Ron: Their price is 549 USD - which will cost you close to 650 CAD, considering the actual exchange rate. Don't forget the banks charge you 2 or 3% above the listed exchange rate to buy US $.
Newegg Canada sells it for 649 CAD + GST + PST - free shipping. (total 733 37 CAD in Ontario).
Is it worth the drive, the waiting time, the extra cost associated with shipping to a USA address etc for about 80 CAD?
In my opinion, it is not, unless you're going stateside anyway for some other reason.
Then, you've got to convince the Canadian Border Services that you did not import anything. If you can successfully do that - good for you. I'm afraid I'm not a good enough liar; they'd see right through me. If they catch you, you'll wish you never heard about WIND Mobile or the Nokia N900. It could cost you your car.
Just trying to think this through . . . .

@Johnn
Well even if you make the exchange rate %10 you are still paying under $600 for the device and thats still over $130 less then what Newegg Canada charges you.
The drive and wait is worth it if you don't mind driving or want to take a short trip. Personally I will be travelling to Buffalo because I found amazing prices for plane tickets so I'm flying from their.
As for Canadian Border Services. I am just suggesting an option you have of buying the phone. Everyone has different ethical opinions personally their is nothing illegal in my case about buying the phone as I will be in the US for 11 days and that allows me to bring in $750 CAD worth of goods.

I just received mine from Amazon. Paid $529 - $50 rebate for US. I'm actually doing this post from my N900.
Browser is excellent. SIP works right out of the box. 3G voice calls were excellent. UI takes some getting used to and could use some more polish.
@J-N900
3G voice Calls?? How did you get 3G in Canada?
Amazon is now selling it for $799. Thats just crazy.
i think J-900 is in US. using 3g with t-mobile. last time I heard, amazon do not ship 2 canada
