I never understood this phenomenon of subsidizing the phone! Do many people subsidize their other electronic purchases like TV, PC or Surround systems? If not, then why subsidize cell phones - which is quite affordable to begin with considering the other items I listed. Just have it open, buy your own phone of any kind and get a SIM card from telco - off you go.
Wow wait to rip off Kodoo's tab method.
Regardless, @WaitingForYears: Not all of us can afford a BB Bold 9700 up front ($550+). And why should we have to sit and use crappy old phones while the rich use nice new phones? At least a contract is a start. I mean if you're going to be using a phone for 3 years, might as well slowly pay for it and get it up front. Sure it adds a little bit of cost to the plan but no one can tell me Rogers $80 data plan for 5GB is high in cost to mitigate the cost of contracts.
