I hope AT&T never comes up here, they are the biggest scammers of all time. Every story I've ever heard about them is one of poor service or how they ripped the customer off. I'm glad WIND is here, I just hope they pull themselves together.

I know I'm very critical of WIND after becoming very frustrated with the sometimes crappy service, but I still hope the best for them. I just wish they would stop playing us as fools, we all know the 'conversation' is one sided so why are they kidding themselves?

I've said this a million times and they just ignored me and gave me a template response. They need a real forum. @Saidear, of course they are new and it will take time to build from the ground up, but there's no reason why they can't be more transparent and let us know where they're at with their network. We're sick being left in the dark with no excuse as to why it is taking so long for somethings to be fixed. How hard would it be to make a 'status' page that informs WIND users of network status, building progress, delays, etc? Not hard. There is a million things they could do to address our complaints, but instead they are silent.

@BIG AL - I didn't port a number, I simply stopped topping up my rogers pay as you go to sign up with WIND. Previously with rogers, I was able to negotiate a $22/month plan with my5/unlimited text, but the downside was that I could only get 40min/month.. but I only use my phone for txting and calling a few friends anyway, as well as facebook txt and twitter txt. With WIND, I can't use fb or twitter to text because WIND hasn't setup cellphone short codes yet.

And yes, 5G they are deleting unmarked comments. Mine was deleted within 10 minutes before anyone could even read it.

I'm still subscribed, but I'm insulted that they would give $150 to new customers on contracts but I get nothing after paying WIND and subsidizing these $150 credits. All I get is poor service.

@5G - I waste my time because I somehow still have a little glimmer of hope that WIND will pull themselves together. I'm probably too naive though.

Of course you save money, but you also get subpar service. That's why I'm going to switch back to Rogers or maybe Virgin. Yes it costs more, but you get service that works.

By the way, I've been a WIND cellular subscriber for two months now. I'm not impressed at all.

As an English speaking Canadian from Ontario, I completely agree that there should be a french version of the site. It doesn't matter if WIND will not be coming to Quebec, Canada has TWO official languages and thus both languages should be respected and used.

We've been complaining about this for so long. I think the problem stems with WIND, not FB. I suspect it has something to do with WIND's inability to provide email to text messaging. Sort of stupid that it's taking so long to be resolved, I mean I know there is a shortage of mobile IT specialists that are capable of building wireless networks, but come on, can't they get some help from Globalive's other wireless carriers around the world? I agree, this needs to be fixed immediately. If they had a proper web development team then there's absolutely no reason why fixing these issues should take so long. I guess their developers are either very new, or the team is non-existent, or it's just one guy trying to do everything. Perhaps WIND has run out of money and is putting every penny they have towards current staff and building towers.

I doubt they could do anything even if they did, not unless the messages were persistent and very evident of some sort of criminal activity. I'd imagine a lot of text messages that could be used as criminal evidence are actually just friendly jokes. It's all a matter of context. Saying "I'll kill you for that!" these days hardly means anything.

I'm not sure, you may have a faint signal but I'm not an expert by any means. It really depends on the surrounding landscape. I think if you're not within a couple of KM then your signal won't be very good at all. Rogers, Bell, and Telus all generally have good reception inside most buildings but WIND seems to have trouble with this. :( If Toronto was flat, I'd imagine things would be a lot easier.

Sorry to make another comment, but a forum would probably cut down WIND's cost on phone support. Take a look at how many customers ask questions on t-mobile's forum and how many users reply with answers. On here you don't get that kind of organization. Perhaps WIND wants to spend money on repetitive support calls.

Thanks Paul, I did read Chris Robbins' post earlier but there was no specific mention of a forum. Yes, enhancing moderation and management would be good but what we need is better organization of each post/reply. A forum resolves all issues surrounding moderation + organization. Perhaps under your partnership with T-Mobile, they might show you how to set one up.

Even T-Mobile has a forum, although theirs isn't very good. http://forums.t-mobile.com/ The best forum software is vBulletin, you can find it at http://vBulletin.com. Many large businesses us vB as it is a trusted brand and has been around for a very long time.

Cammy you're an idiot. A company needs a source of revenue to expand. How the hell do you expect them to afford coverage across one of the largest land masses in the world? Globalive may have already setup shop and be established in other countries but I can't see them being able to afford putting towers up across Canada without having another source of income.

I agree, the phone selection is the one reason I'm holding back. I want to purchase a blackberry bold 9700 but it is too expensive for a university student such as myself. The Samsung Gravity is quite ugly and the Huawei U7519 has mixed reviews and doesn't seem like a quality phone. However, if WIND were to hire me at one of their GTA locations, I might be willing to spend a bit more. ;) ;)

Chris, what I recommend is a user discussion forum instead of these comments and community posts that seem to disappear and become buried quite quickly. With an online discussion board (forum), you can cut costs of support staff because online users will be able to help each other out and ask each other questions without having to call into support. This has largely worked for other companies in different industries, such as NCIX.com. So many support questions for NCIX have been answered by the community, I'm sure it has cut down their support staff costs considerably. If WIND were to ...

You can use unlocked phones (from what I've read), it's just that most phones don't support 1700mhz spectrum.

Let me get this straight, you can play videos and music through your web browser when you visit YouTube and other various websites, but when you transfer a video file to your U7519 then they do not play with the music and video playing software? It could be that you are trying to play an unrecognized format. I believe the U5719 only supports MPEG4, H.263, H.264, and 3GPP video formats.

This phone is the same as the T-Mobile TAP in the United States. The reviews seem to be about average. For the price, it's not a bad phone. You can check email, web browse, play videos, music, it comes with an FM Radio, Micro SD slot upgradable to 8GB, bluetooth, camera. If you google "T-Mobile Tap Review" that might help you decide on what you think of the reviews. You can also look up "T-Mobile TAP" on YouTube so you can see how the interface works. Yes, iPhone and Nexus One would be great. @ 0 0 7, they may know that already but every comment requesting these phones goes to show the demand for them.

I think in one of their blog posts they discussed that they do need to come up with better data plans. So I think it's something they're working on.

They are always trying to get more phones but the problem is that they are using the AWS spectrum and there are not a lot of other carriers that use this band. To a cellular phone manufacturer, it's not feasible to reprogram and produce current handsets to use AWS unless there is a large market for profitability. Fortunately you can rest assured that WIND will continue to grow and there will continue to be an increased demand for AWS compatible phones, forcing manufacturers to start producing AWS phones... lest be beat out by the few companies that do.

Yes this is an excellent idea. Barrie is basically a housing community for the GTA and there are tens of thousands of commuters that drive up and down the 400 daily. I think extended coverage up the 400 and around Barrie would be well worth the investment.

I sympathize with DH and would like to see Chris or someone at WIND address the port blocking issue before WIND is labeled as being too controlling. At present, the 'spirit' of WIND is openness but I would hate to see their reputation tarnished because they wouldn't address port blocking. To the common person, blocked ports might not matter, but if you are a heavy email user or would like to use phone apps such as Skype, you're pretty much screwed if all ports are blocked. For people like me (part time web master), I require open ports for FTP, ...

Yes, as long as your phone specs say it can operate on an AWS network and also as long as it is not CDMA (phone must have the slot for sim cards). Since WINDMobile sells the Bold 9700, your Bold 9700 will work on the WIND network.

They are working on bringing more phones over for WIND customers but as with all good things, you must be patient and wait. And yes it is pretty cool that WIND gives SIM cards for free. Before WIND came out, I had to pay $40 to Rogers for a one. What a scam. Several years ago Rogers only charged $10 for a SIM so it sounds like they have become very greedy.

@ Wind Cares, that's a poor excuse. I'm currently with Rogers (although tomorrow I'm buying a WIND Mobile phone) and Rogers works perfectly 100% all around YorkU and within all buildings. My friend with Virgin hasn't had any reception problems, and my other friend with Telus hasn't had problems. YorkU buildings were not created to block out cellular signals and most of the buildings on our campus aren't 'very large structures'.

I haven't yet, I was just curious. I only use my phone to text so I thought that since WIND coverage is horrible on YorkU campus when you enter a building with walls no thicker than paper, I might as well go on rogers to txt.. but I guess not bcuz it's not free.

I live in the village, :P. So it's not really 'on campus' but my place is about 25m from being on campus so I just say it is regardless.

I have a few friends that have really been through hoops with Virgin Mobile. Their billing department seems to do a very poor job. My friend has been double charged ($160 each time) and over charged 3 times.

As sad as this story is, when you signed up for WIND you knew what you were getting into. They are very clear that there are dead spots and some network issues still.

I just bought a phone yesterday from WIND Mobile at Bay St. They were perfectly clear about dead spots and told me to call 611 to report them.

Where did I say that we didn't report dead spots? Do you want me to lie and say that WIND didn't tell me about dead spots and to report them? Even though they clearly did two days ago when I bought my phone?

I see some parts of the user site are encrypted but I'm not sure why the entire top-up process was not.

Yes, no doubt it is up to facebook but WIND could push them a bit and send them a daily email or give them a phone call once a day until they add them to the list. It's such a hassle to type out my email all the time, plus without this I can't have new facebook messages txt'ed to my cell.

I also seem to get the following error: "Error 619: A connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection was closed". It variates between those two messages. It sounds like my pc is having trouble talking to my phone at the authentication stage of connecting.

An update, I've tried variating between "internet.windmobile.ca" and "broadband.windmobile.ca" as an APN. Some online guides say "internet." and some say "broadband.". I've tried my wind number/pin and my username/password and both have not worked. Also leaving user/pass blank does not work, so maybe it is not a problem with me... Will talk to WIND tomorrow.

Ah ok. As I was leaving WIND on Bay St., I asked about this and two reps joked around and said "so make sure you don't send high-res pictures". Probably not the smartest thing to say to make a customer feel confident. That's why WIND should hire me, because I know better and will make customers feel confident and happy with their purchase! :P

I got it, it seems the APN is 'internet.windmobile.ca' however that didn't work last night when I tried. Maybe it was temporarily down, but it works now.

@JAWG, I'm surprised you're still allowed to post on here. You can clearly see the company name "Globalive Wireless" on those speed test results and I can't fake them because the results are saved to speedtest.net's servers. Pretty sure I don't have access to upload modified pics to speedtest.net.

Most (if not all) Rogers phones do not work on the WIND network. Your best bet is to call WIND before you purchase any phone. They will go over the details with you on whether a phone will work on their network. I think only AWS phones on 1700 and 2100 bands will work, but again, double check with WIND. 1-877-809-4631 (1-877-80-WIND-1)

Oh 2nd largest? Even better :P. Getting reception in the TEL basement is amazing. If there's a tower on Chimneystack Rd. then that will surely improve things quite a bit once it's activated. I live on campus too but I do notice a lot of weak and dead areas when walking around. If I'm out in the open, it's usually fine but as soon as I walk between buildings or enter one, the signal disappears almost as soon as I walk through the door. In comparison, every other carrier works throughout most buildings at York. An example of weak to ...

You should also remember that WIND is only a few months old. In comparison, Rogers, Bell, and Telus are all 5+ years to a decade old and have had substantial amounts of time to fix coverage. Yes it's frustrating to have poor reception but in time I think all of these issues will be resolved.

Entire York University Campus - poor to zero reception in most areas Keele and York University Boulevard - Poor to zero reception It would be totally awesome if WIND put a tower up on the York Campus and then maybe started some sort of co-op program with YorkU/Seneca computer students so that they could get some first hand experience working with cellular technology. It would benefit WIND by possibly getting some government grants, and it would benefit students interested in perusing careers in the mobile industry.

P.S. I love you WIND, even if you aren't at full strength yet. But sometimes it can be frustrating to see all the YorkU students on their blackberry's and I'm standing there looking at my phone that says "Network Unavailable". :(

Yea "off campus" it works for me too, it's on campus that really isn't good.

I think the best thing for WIND to do is to keep us customers in the loop about where they're at. If they don't have the technology or are having difficulties programming the solutions required, say so. People are much more understanding when they're informed about problems and what is being done to resolve them. If your tech's are slow or having problems, say so. You're a new company, no body expects you to get it all right at first - but when we're paying money, we are stakeholders in your business and would like to know what's going on.
