The first month free is only for voice and text. Unfortunately not any of the addons. Because of that the apps you download should be ok but if they require data usage then you would be charged since the social blackberry only allows social sites and messaging only.

Actually there is a north american 3g tmobile version in the works. Its only a matter of time we can get it on those frequencies through tmobile if not wind.

Again, since wind is a new company and has an entirely new platform there will be kinks. As far as Home Zone goes it not as many people having issues that people here make it out to be. There are quite a few bashers of all telco companies here. Lets keep the bashing aside and have proper discussion on how we can benfit each other the consumers! Not trying to bash any of the other companies as I have never had an issue with any of them but one of my buddies who works at the red company (no names taken) said they don't want to rush and make things smooth for wind or any of the new carriers indirectly which is why i switched.

its an old phone. great phone tho had it for 2 months then sold it since i was able to make money. wont work on wind. One thing to remember is that European phones that have 1700 and 2100 wont work. The reason is because Wind like tmobile uses 1700 for uplink and 2100 for downlink whereas in Europe it is the other way around.

Read through all their plans and addons. $20 per month gets you 100 monthly minutes which rollover for 1 month. Unlimited Text. Caller ID and Nation wide network calling (which is not a big deal now but will be as they grow as a company).

At this moment in time a tab system is not worth it. Totally defeats the purpose of being contract free and having any string attached. Maybe in the future they can do what T-mobile has done in terms of financing phone in percentage to have them payed of in 3 months or so but again strings because for some reason we will finance a car, tv, digital camera but not a cell phone.

Seriously those devices are not good phones. The iphone isnt bad but isnt the best. Check out the Samsung Omnia HD i8910, Sony Xperia X10, HTC Bravo, etc. There are phones out there that honestly are all in 1 devices. check out gsmarena.com

For the provider there are no benefits really. An unlocked phone allows a person to use a particular GSM handset on any network as long as the phone has the frequency bands to support it. If Wind where to sell unlocked phones as an example everyone would buy the BB9700 and use it on the big 3 if they were on contract because the Big 3 charge $600 for it. With an unlocked phone lets say you go to the states, instead of paying roaming charges or "Away" charges with Wind you can get a SIM card from a carrier ...

Since this will be your first new phone Wind is the only brand that will give you the most value for your money. Typically to get a good plan with the others you have to fight and be with them for a certain period of time. Take a look at the coverage map, if it suits you then yes most likely Wind is a good choice but definately compare Wind to the rest and you will see what is worth it in the long run.

Also any restrictions that have been placed by a carrier are lifted when unlocked and unbranded. For example rogers forces you to get ringtones from them. With an unbranded phone you can download something and set that as your ringtone. If a phone is unlocked you can use it on any network that supports it but may not be able to install games, music, etc. on it because it is unbranded. Hope that makes sense.

You have to understand that many manufacturers of phones have policies that state they will not deal with new phone companies until there 1-2 years in business. Also the frequency is unique since Tmobile USA is the only company to use it. These plans must be compared to consumer plans offered up front at the Big 3 where these plans are significantly better hands down. You cannot compare a retention plan with this since there at different levels and in some cases these plans are still better.

Read around and you will understand. Costly not really. For example the BB9700 is much cheaper right out from wind than any other carrier in North America. Just the way you spend more to drive a Mercedez a BlackBerry is similiar, more features more specs = higher cost.

The Nexus One from google will sell for $530 unlocked with all bands. Will feature the latest android version from them that is not in the market and also sports a 5mp camera. Will look just like the HTC Bravo which is rumored and I believe it has a 1GHZ Snapdragon processor making it blazingly fast compared to other phones available in North America at this moment in time. You can also get it from Tmobile on a 2yr contract of a minimum of $79.99 per month for voice and data where the phone will be $180. To be honest ...

Just to let you know also Wind for some reason uses a very weird dail tone which makes it seem busy but it is actually ringing, but ya alot of ppl had that issue with busy and invalid number. Thank god i wasn't one of them.

There coverage is decent. You will get reception but their are some kinks and they have admitted to it. Nice thing is they are fixing it really fast considering how many issues there were and its not easy to do. If I were you there is no need to worry since porting seems to be fine now also. Go ahead and give them a try you will like it.

I'll be honest some of the part time retail reps have no idea what they are doing, even when they are being showed they show no interest in learning and I saw that at a couple of stores. Just my opinion tho and if they were to do it properly the first time there wouldn't be so many issues.

Maybe just another rumor but I occasionally go to square one to follow up on staff for the other wireless guys for there selling. What an awkward situation since I want to be with Wind but nonetheless I was told by management they don't want Wind there for either a tower or retail spot at this moment in time since they have way to many wireless shops in the mall providing enough competition as it is. I didn't say anything but that is just ........ (fill in the blank).

It is a much better phone in terms of user friendliness compared to the huawei. Spend the extra 20 and get the samsung. the only thing is there are no accessories that come with the samsung like usb cable or earphones especially since they use a proprietary cable but you can definitely find them in a mall from those small accessories booths.

I hope you know and understand this was expected to happen with a new network. All customer care reps in store or over the phone is a make a detailed note of where it happened and pass it along to have it addressed. In terms of how long it will take that no one really knows only the tech guys at Wind. Be patient, things will improve but will take time.

all I want to say is we get it they have issues so relax msc2020. If you read any of my previous post I ported a number to wind and have been ok but that was for my mom. As for myself I am on Rogers and besides the fact I can get more from Wind, I am pretty much content with what I have so will wait and see what 2010 will bring us from all the carriers.

You will get an unlock code from wind after 3 months of service. And the same 25 cent roaming charge applies for USA but roaming is currently not available. This is what I have been told be a store manager.

Sending texts from the Away zone is not unlimited it is 15 cents per text and for it to go through is not their fault but the carrier you are roaming off of which is rogers.

Heartland is a bit weak and so is the reception in square one. Also sign up at the Meadowvale store seems like they got stock and they are really good. Just an opinion from personal experience. Also the Dundas square was sold out that why dont know if it is still the case.

What public mobile wants to be another provider like the Big Blue, Green and Red. Why dont they all just shut up and launch and compete. Put the consumer first. Your confident in your system then compete. Shows how public mobile already sees itself fading out real quick. Just try to deliver on our expectations and we will support who ever can do that. Why not donate all that money being spent in court to the homeless and needy here in Canada? Sorry had to vent!

go to gsmarena.com from there on the left hand side all the manufacturers are there so select which ever one you want to inquire about. Once that is done on the top of the listed phones it will say bands so select 1700 and click on filter it will show you every phone that is compatible by manufacturer. Hope that helps.

RIM is being silly by doing this but it is what they are doing since there is a huge consumer base that will use there device over any other even if it was inferior to another product. Ive been told the reason why WiFi does not work on the $10 plan is a restriction in place by RIM so you upgrade to the $35 plan where RIM can profit to a larger extent than the $10 plan and allowing WiFi. If this is true and to what extent is another question altogether.

Its a great idea to be honest because we are a multicultural and multi-language country where the multi means hundreds. I am sure Wind will do that but to be honest don't see that happening for the next 3 months but definitely sooner than later.

The samsung is the better phone in terms of usability for a person that wants ease to call and text. The huawei is a good phone for the price but I would spend the $20 and get the samsung. The huawei would be perfect if calling was your primary concern.

If the call is made from the HOME ZONE it is not charged out of your 100 minutes. Only if it is made from the Away Zone in which case it is 25 cents per minute.

In Mississauga you can also go to Dixie and Eglinton. Behind the esso gas station there is a commercial building which has shops and small offices. In side there on the second floor there are 2 stores. One called Encore Cellular (great for cheap accessories they wholesale to all the small booths in the malls around the GTA) and SN Traders which is also listed on Howard Forums. Check them out also if you want.

Wind Canada has nothing to do with Wind Italy or Greece since they are primarily operated by different owners. The control of this Wind is in the hands of Globalive whereas the control of those 2 countries Wind belongs to Orascom. Orascom has a share in this Wind yes but not definite control from what the Government has concluded.

It could also be just a human error. Don't get me wrong but I think people should understand that people who work for Wind, Telus, Rogers and Bell are human. Please do not yell at them unless they are truly being inconsiderate. It is the companies policies that limit what they can do and the structure built by these companies. Rogers, Bell and Telus have failed time in and time out but it is because of corporate policies not the people who work at the call centers. the 100 minutes on that plan and the 50 texts if unused or whatever amount remains will rollover for 1 month then expire

The left over texts and minutes rollover for only 1 month. Ex: this month you only use 40 min out of 100 so therefore 60min rollover. Come next month you are initially using the 100 minutes of that month first then would use the left over minutes. If again you only use 40 min then the 60 that rolled over from last month expire but the 60 from this month will roll over to the next month. Hope that helps!

Just to give you a heads up Verizon Wireless will be using 700 and 1700 for there LTE services and with Tmobile in USA also being on those frequencies this puts Wind in a unique position to get better handsets but that is still for at least 2 years down the road. Wind can get any handset they want if they are willing to buy high and sell low and take the risk of hoping to make profit from the handsets. 700 and 1700 are the main frequencies leading to 4G that is why the big 3 have bought this spectrum. Last thing you want is to have a frequency only you will use and can't get phones like Wind at this moment in time.

I think the big issue is when you are roaming on Rogers it is per second billing so to stay in line with that (and to remember that they to are a business) have kept it per second billing.

I will make the assumption that you have the Huawei phone and if so that phone is terrible for picking up reception. Note to all Samsung isn't that great either but it is a better buy and if you can spend money go with the Maple or BB 9700. Personally get your self a decent unlocked phone like the HTC G1 or Motorola Dext/Cliq without over spending. (I recommend those since it seems BB is completely out of stock for wind. There bleeding money in that perspective).

Outgoing texts are unlimited and the add-on is only $5 per month if you choose the $35 or $15 plan. When outside of the coverage each text is 15 cents but incoming is supposed to free all the time.

For wind wait another month or 2 and for DAVE once they launch do the same thing wait a month or two. Reason being there will be issues for all new entrants. Unless you really want to leave your provider than by all means do so but by waiting you can see how well they are improving and what you want from the provider. From that point of view choose the best deal for you.

Tried 6 times and everyone has a different answer. It frustrating because their should be comments on my account as to why I called earlier but they are none. I am now going to shop around to another provider. May join the other evil rogers since I have not had any issues with them to date for my own cell line and cable. The phone itself is terrible. Spend the $20 and get the Samsung Gravity 2 it will be much better in terms of holding a call. From the seems of it majority of the people who call with it are the ones with many issues like weak signal to none, dropped calls, etc. I originally got it for my dad since it was cheaper and looked nice but it is terrible. Exchanged for the Gravity right away.

Ported 1 number from Fido and 1 number from Telus. Fido took 2 hours and telus 2 1/2 hours. Would rate it as 1. People porting during December are the ones having problems or not providing proper information.

To be completely honest some posts are exaggerated. What I personally would recommend you to do is NOT to port your number over but rather activate a phone with a new phone number. Try it out for the first day or two because that should give you an insight as to how the service will fair for your daily usage and if it doesn't work out for you, you can return everything and not loose your current plan with Rogers. Personally I have concluded unlike the major brands the RF on the Huawei struggles to hold on to a signal while in a call thus dropping calls. Not only that if I were standing in one spot with a BB9700 or N900 and I may get full bars the Huawei on the other hand only provides 2 bars. While that display really does not mean much it does however give you an insight onto how the phone is. The maple is a good phone. Not to bad just the windows mobile operating system is slow in respect to other operating software on the same amount of memory and ram. Depends on what you want to do with the phone also. If you want to use alot of data go BB if its just occasional use than get the Maple.

Remember it is most likely that a Wind rep hops on to these forums randomly. It is most likely they have missed it or they won't answer if they don't have an answer to it. I see mobilicity and wind being on the same level once mobilicity launches. The only thing is Wind has a larger backing behind it.

The wifi is decent meaning better than psp and close to the itouch. Dont use the blackberry browser cuz it suxs. You can always unlock it right away either online at gsmarena.com and other sites advertised there or use the service and wind will unlock it for you. Worst case scenario go activate a phone on prepaid cuz first month is free. Take it home and everywhere you go and see if you get reception. If you want make 1 or 2 calls but dont go over 30 minutes. No need to complain about that policy since it is something all providers in North America have. If it works for you then port or simply return the phone.

I don't work for Wind but I will still respond to your question. I am on pay before and have realized that let's say in my case where I have the $35 plan, they do not deduct $35 right away but rather deduct a prorated daily charge. So every day they deduct a balance. Therefore even if you do not have extra credit applied you can still use it in a roaming area and when you come back you can simply top up your account. I used to be with both Fido and Rogers about 3 months ago before Wind came along. Never used to receive incoming texts whether they were local or international. I used to work for Fido and they changed my plan without telling me and put me on a 3 year contract whereas I used to be on a contract free employee plan known as the ambassador plan. Its like the unlimited signs with random people on it. Doesnt make sense. Just shows you they want to grow a customer base and sell themselves. I said it before and will say it again. Mobilicity and Wind will have similiar issues like T-mobile USA. I just simply think the frequency is a much harder implementation than the legacy frequencies. Ericsson built T-Mo network and we all know its still not up their for service. Nokia-siemens built Wind's and gave them the green light and it is not perfect. So ya its going to be interesting to watch.

Trottie you neither work for Nokia-Siemens and Ericsson which have built majority of the wireless networks worldwide. If both Mobilicity and Wind are using this approach then there is obviously something to it. I understand Mobilicity has a cell sharing agreement but they are also building some sites on buildings as it is harder to implement a 1700 frequency.

Its a $130 phone, what do you expect. I know it could be much better for the same price however it is not. If I were you and you only want to use it for talk and text I would consider the Samsung or an unlocked phone like a Sony Ericsson TM506 which you can find easily for about $100-$150.

It depends on the Rep. Some of the reps seem completely out of it as if they are just there since they need a job and some seems as if it is their duty to make sure everything is smooth as possible for the customer. Overall majority of the reps do know what they are doing. Meadowvale, Bramlea City Centre and Holt Renfrew locations have extremely impressed with their service.

As far as rating is concerned I personally would give it a 3 out of 5. Twitter Messaging is not capable because it is not a smart phone. No google maps for the basic Samsung OS. Keys are plastic but with like a bit of a rubber feel. ( I guess that doesn't help much) You would only get charged in a AWAY zone if you answer a call. If you don't and lets say you reject an incoming call you will NOT be charged. No you don't get charged for missed calls.

Bell and Telus actually offer HSDPA+ which is equivalent to the HSPA network of Rogers and Wind. If both Rogers and Wind completely implement HSPA+ their networks would be faster than Bell and Telus. Rogers has already began implementing HSPA+ and watching Verizon and AT&T research and implement 4G LTE so they can copy them straight. Rogers, Wind and Mobilicity are already designed for HSPA+ and is only a matter of implementing in the back end and getting the license from the their network builders (Nokia-Siemens for Wind). Actually Bell and Telus have implemented HSPA in major cities and HSDPA+ in other parts. Rogers has started to implement HSPA+ however despite it being launched in 5 major cities it is still not offered in every part of GTA.

That sucks. Unfortunately they won't offer discounts because they apparently sell at cost and there is no contracts. The biggest issue is there is nothing stopping you from leaving Wind once they do offer you a discount. Ask them to give you a credit towards your monthly payment that would be the best thing to do.

Seems like the Ottawa map is scaled down from the actual coverage compared to the other cities. You may get reception, ask around.

Expect to see low end no name phones maybe this month but most likely next month. Apparently they are getting a Gowell Guip phone with some no name Foxtell and ZTE phones. Mainly intended for the people looking at a really cheap phone for talking. The only phone to look forward for which they most likely are getting is the Nokia 5230 in May which will also be launched by Mobilicity. That will go for about $180

Do a hard reset through the settings. Make sure you back up all your files on the Nexus 1 because they will be wiped out. Many people on the Android forums are reporting that this will help with the connectivity issue since most of the time it has been a device issue rather than a network issue. Give it a try.

however with HTC Sense UI you can barely realise it runs Windows. HTC should of just made there own OS for this phone since there is massive amounts of customization done.

LOL John. $180 per year with wind on the $15 plan gets you 1200 minutes. Per minute cost on Wind is cheaper. But then again you seem to be someone who loves Bell and their landline service. You only call your wife so its not for you. But what I dont get is why should we CARE!

I believe the Huawei was a temporary solution for Wind to launch with. I doubt they will provide support and phase it out as the network gets stronger.

I only use voice at this moment in time and haven't had issues in that area. Then again I was outside not inside buildings. Full signal most of the time to 4 bars from 5 which is not bad.

Using my phone all over Mississauga. No complaints here. As soon as they cover north Oakville and Milton the border of the coverage area here should improve also. No complaints on the voice portion. Just can't afford data from Wind yet.

I should be getting myself the HTC HD2 and the Sony Xperia X10 by the end of this month so I will end up doing that. @Jamie the number ported over and works fine. Its the phone. Seems like Wind didnt really try out the firmware on all the phones sold.

The more customers join the faster Wind can build out its network. More incoming revenue will enable it to spend faster. They have said they dont intend to make a profit for atleast 3 years.

The Huawei that Wind carries is slightly different than the T-Mobile Tap. T-Mobile has spent the money to put on a customer firmware slightly different to the on Wind has. While Wind can arrange a firmware update I would highly doubt it as they will most likely start to phase out this model in the coming months if they plan to launch new phones.

N1 or N900. Sony Xperia X10 has already become outdated due to its firmware. Only if Sony can push out Android 2.1 extremely soon the X10 might be a loss cause considering the N1 sells for cheaper and the N900 is a beast of a phone. HTC is also competing with the HTC HD2 and the HTC Desire which are extremely good phones also.

@anonymous why would you not look at the coverage map before joining and ask the right questions? secondly the Ottawa coverage is actually greater than what they display so it may work for you. Ask around.

I used it in Mississauga and Brampton yesterday and that is where I had witnessed the dropped connections. Not a fan of the Huawei but for someone who wants a very basic phone for just calling than this works.

Than I am clueless as to how to get it to work. I have only sent 2 MMS and they had worked apparently. Since then I have given the N1 away to my cousin since I am getting the HD2 and X10.

This whole area is one big DEAD zone. Poor guys at the Meadowvale keep telling customers that they won't activate unless we the customers are ok with not having reception in doors, that just sucks.

try building your own network. Square One is full of thick concrete. Look at Yorkdale and it is open with Windows so reception is better. The structure is an issue. Will improve over time but I dont see an immediate resolution to this matter.

It actually does not have the 850 UMTS Band. There are 2 versions of this phone. The North American one which has AWS/1700 and 2100 and the Euro version which has 850 and 2100

if you go under options in the connect manager you have to change the APN from broadband.windmobile.ca to internet.windmobile.ca and all ports and dropped signal should go away (ports will be open). Once I did that I have not had issues in Mississauga.

Nokia and Sony are the only manufacturers that offer proper RF capabilities on their phones whether it is $10 or $100000000. This is why Nokia is #1 in the world right now and there are die hard fans of Sony

The Nokia 5230 was still in the works and Tmobile USA has first dibs with Nokia on launching this phone. The phone is really good not because the network is being built by Nokia but because the fact Nokia has always put really good RF antennae in their phones. This is why they are so popular world wide.

Fav 5 from the Big 3 on a sub par plan is more expensive than the $35 unlimited Talk plan. It doesnt make sense. Its about call anyone at anytime you want. Its freedom in a sense, mobile freedom.

Get the nokia 5230 and you shouldn't have problems. Friends and family in that area have nothing but praise for the phone and network. As far as 1/2 is concerned they have only been in business for over 4 months. 2 months to early? lol

Get a new sim on prepaid with rogers or fido with an 647 number. port that over to wind. when you switch your number after you port u loose the credit

Biggest problem is North Oakville, South Milton which borders West Mississauga. BIG DEAD ZONE. 9th Line and 10th Line is a terrible for coverage. No repeaters or towers in that area by Wind at all.

the nokia does fair much better to any phone in their line up. its RF capabilities are even better than Blackberries. Wind still has ALOT of work to do to patch up their service tho

Not sure if you looked at the map properly but that is extremely close to the border. If you happened to read this forum or any other on Wind you would of known that Wind is weak at the borders and is in a so called "working progress"

Just port out of Wind for now. The phone won't go to complete waste as you can demand the unlock code for your situation. It sucks in terms of the position you are in but you should not of have kept the phone when you realized the coverage sucks for you. I know they keep saying things are getting better and they are but the pace that things are improving it can't address everyone. Hope things work out for you.

It took me nearly a month to port over my landline also. In my scenario my old provider Bell was being an @$$ and kept asking for additional info from Wind every time they submitted a request. Even when I called Bell several times and spoke to their 'technical' agents to ask what else does Wind need to provide they kept saying thats it and it was always wrong. Sent a handwritten letter straight to Bell head office of how they were illegally holding my number and 2 days after that my number ported over. Its a two way street, ...

Its a BB issue. Call RIM and trouble shoot with them. WiFi is only blocked if you take the $10 social BB plan.

I go to York and it is NOT a dead zone. While Scott Library, William Small and Curtis dont get reception overall there has been an improvement in service. No need to exagerate your claim.

Brampton for the most part in fine. Were you live or go to is not all of Brampton. Why not go in store for them to log a ticket or use the network builder because that would actually benefit you and them as opposed to everyone avoiding this thread.

Mississauga is good except for anything on Winston Churchill and west of it which includes you. Wait it out. Reception is extremely poor.

There are key difference from the Data Wind offers and the data that mobilicity offers in the terms of condition, however many at this point have been able to by pass that.

Firstly its free, and your in an a zone technically still considered AWAY. Call them up before coming here and complaining. And secondly they really are not obliged to you since they dont technically offer services where you are.

$300-$350 on Kijiji. There are enough suckers out there that will buy it. Remember to unlock it and advertise as will work on any GSM and AWS carrier meaning even rogers, fido and mobi!

Expectations of getting coverage in a basement is a bit extreme don't you think. I don't live in Vancouver but here in Toronto, I don't get coverage from Telus, Bell, Rogers, Wind or Mobilicity. Actually the strange this is Public Mobile gets coverage in my basement albeit very weak.

Remember that Wind is NOT in a tower sharing agreement with any other provider. The only agreement they have is for Roaming. Therefore Wind has to acquire cell sites to build which is the hardest part. Building and testing a site is a fairly fast process. While they have been huge improvements in the Winston Churchill and Derry area the improvement is for a very nominal area. I would say the city of Mississauga is 85% well covered. Calgary has definately seen improvements. my suggestion is if your university is on the border of the coverage map, your gonna have to wait longer. I dont live in Calgary so no idea of how Calgary is overall. head over to howard forums where there is an active thread on calgary coverage.

Remember for companies are targeting to become different types of carriers. Wind's hope is to be a premium brand like rogers and them therefore they will be a tad bit higher in price offering better flexibility in terms of coverage and no long distance within province calling. Mobi will be a value brand. Your choice

if you read that full article and various other articles you will see that wind has not been able to find middle ground with other providers on tower sharing in a manner tht wind thinks is feasable. therefore wind is not in a tower sharing agreement with the incumbents.
