I'm kind of disappointed that Vancouver won't launch this year, but I suppose it'll give me a chance to see some feedback on the devices and service before I make the decision to stay with the current provider or not. As for the iPhone, I never liked that thing due to app store politics anyways. We need more Symbian and Android phones.

There is no problem with contracts when they are properly used to subsidize a phone that would normally cost $600. How about no contracts in order to get a rate plan? I know at least one of the big 3 providers will allow you to purchase phones at full price, but then if you want service to the phone you need to sign a 1 year contract, 3 years if you want data. That's ridiculous. Also, the subsidies should be realistic. I know at least one phone that I can get for $300 unlocked on newegg.ca, that rogers wants $200 ...

I hope that this changes things, but I think that the wording is far too ambiguous to actually do any good in a system where we have an oligopoly that will exploit any possible means to improve their bottom line at the expense of the customer. Nokias are great phones, and I personally prefer them. But, RIM is a homegrown Canadian company, and should enjoy a lot of success here.

If you round up to the nearest $5 it amounts to a $15 unlimited data plan with Vodaphone. Wind could charge whatever they wanted for voice, and I'd still go with them for the data.

I think unlimited (or a very high limit) data with a fair use policy should be both available and affordable. I have difficulty believing that the costs of providing access increase with each GB as much as the incumbents would have us believe, especially given the cost of home-based internet. It's not like we are causing extra wear and tear. Obviously users that abuse the policy and cause diminished access to others should be dealt with appropriately. @Droidhacker: They are, and everyone does want one. There is a niche market for tech saavy customers such as you and I who will seek out the most powerful device, but we are few and far in between. This is why devices like the N1 and the N900 (I have one) are largely commercial failures. The only really successful Android phone is the Droid, and it's entirely because of Verizon's marketing push. WIND needs a killer device.
