Please consider adding it to the $25 plan. I'm currently on Fido and will consider switching to Wind when they come to Ottawa. My current plan is unlimited evenings and weekends with 100 daytime minutes for $25/mo. I'm considering switching to Wind, but I really don't need unlimited minutes all the time and the increased cost is holding me back.

I don't think this will happen. Sidekicks are usually T-Mobile exclusive phones, meaning T-Mobile is the only carrier selling these phones to customers. Also, only the Sidekick LX 2009 would work on the Wind network, since Wind uses 1700Mhz.

I don't think the government would allow Wind to do this. Other wireless carriers would surely call this "favouritism" and accuse the government of giving Wind an unfair advantage by allowing Wind to use existing infrastructure.

Can you confirm or comment on the coverage Ottawa will have? I live off of Hunt Club, which from what I've heard is going to be the southern most edge of Wind's service.

Yes, but the other carriers will still call it favouritism because they have already built towers to support their networks, whereas Wind could forgo that in your scenario.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe someone made a mistake? Maybe you were the first official subscriber in the Ottawa area, or perhaps that was the impression the store staff had when they got you to sign that waiver. IMO, just because Wind asked you to sign a waiver does not mean they are obligated to post your photo everywhere. A journalist can come by your house and talk to you for an hour, make you sign forms saying they can use your thoughts in an article, and then quote one line of your hour-long conversation. The 30 minute warranty rule is not only Wind. If you buy a phone from any carrier and put more than 30 minutes on it they will not take it back. Sorry to hear that it isn't working out for you, but this is not some arbitrary thing Wind made up to prevent you from returning it.

You know the saying "Rome wasn't built in a day" ? This is the same thing. Wind mobile is not Rogers, Bell, or Telus. They cannot afford to blanket the entire amalgamated city of Ottawa with service before they launch. You may also note that the city of Ottawa extends to areas such as Marlborough forest, where I'm sure the population density warrants Wind spending lots of money to put up towers. Their coverage map shows that they will be expanding into Stittsville, south down to Manotick, and East out to Orleans. You've tolerated "big red" for this long, why ...

I agree. Wind sorely needs a data plan addon between the current Pay-per-use and Unlimited options. Introduce a ~700-1.5GB/mo plan and I'll add it immediately!

What is your point? Employees of major telecom companies often get discounts. It's a perk of the job. Want it? Quit your current job and work for Wind, otherwise, stop complaining. If Wind gave plans away, they wouldn't be here next month.

Ugh, Fido dollars. Please don't. When I was with Fido I couldn't apply them to lower my bill, or cash out when I left Fido for Wind. If they can only be exchanged for the carrier's already overpriced accessories and phones, what good are they? Pass.

Hmmm, 2 hour call limit? Anyone from Wind care to elaborate on this? I've gone close to 120 minutes with some of my calls and I would hate to think that if I had gone a little bit longer I would have been disconnected. Seriously though, if you're in the Wind Home zone and your plan supports the number of minutes you're using, why disconnect?

I was really excited to hear that Wind added data plans, and was planning on adding one to my phone. But $10 for 50MB? That's ridiculous! I'll stick to Wifi for now. Thanks for nothing, WIND.

I agree. I feel that WIND would do really well to up their current data plans. Nothing too fancy, but here's what I'm thinking of: $10 - 250MB $20 - 1GB Also, including 50MB as part of the "Always shout" plan as an incentive.

How about 500MB for a reasonable price? IMHO, WIND's data plans should be: 250MB - $10 (Currently 50MB) 1024MB - $20 (Currently 500MB) Unlimited - $35

Try entering the "Testing" menu on your phone. You can access it through Spare Parts or by dialing *#*#4636#*#* through dialer. Select Phone information Down the page a bit there is a drop down menu for "Set preferred network type:" I find that when set to WCDMA Preferred my phone will sometimes use Wind AWAY even while in a Home zone. If you set it to WCDMA only (which will disable roaming) you'll either be in Wind HOME or you won't have a signal period. Probably not the solution you were looking for, but give it a try and see ...

I'm using an unlocked T-Mobile G1 on WIND. I unlocked and rooted it while I was with Fido (before WIND launched) and performing firmware upgrades (albeit community-based firmwares) did not affect my ability to join Fido/WIND networks. You've obviously unlocked the phone if you're using it on WIND. The network unlock shouldn't be affected by a firmware update as it is a different part of the phone. If you haven't rooted your phone and have no plans to do so, I see no reason why you can't update using the T-Mobile firmware. Let us know how it goes.

I agree that it was impolite of the Wind representative to publicly mock your request for help. I also agree that Wind should have responded in a more timely manner and should have facilities set up for the loss of a phone. However you have to realize that no carrier, phone manufacturer, middle man, or company wishing to stay in business will willingly write off a very expensive item for your misfortune. Moral of the story: Wind wasn't nice, but ultimately it was you and you alone who lost your phone.

I'm not sure about the official 1.6 firmware for the G1 as I run Cyanogenmod on my G1. As long as your radio is up to date, you shouldn't have any problems. I'm running 2.22.23.02 and I don't have any issues.

If you unlock an HTC Dream it will work on WIND. I have the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) and even with the stock T-Mobile firmware it worked on WIND. You'll probably want to root it and install a better firmware though.

Sorry, my mistake, I forgot that the Rogers HTC Dream has a different radio (doesn't have AWS 1700).

@justmoe: The fact that Nokia will no longer be releasing software updates for the phone? That's a pretty big reason to not buy the N900.

This is a good idea but I can see some potential issues. Not everyone's internet is the same. If WIND were to roll out femtocell units, they would have to deal with supporting them, and that would be quite a bit of work for them to do. There are different speed tiers, and WIND can't ensure that femtocell units receive the proper priority on a customer's home network to not lag or cut out. Some ISPs block VOIP so that they can sell their own package instead. Other ISPs have a double NAT system that would make it hard if ...

Why would Rogers buy WIND? They already have plans to undercut WIND with Chatr, which is built on their existing network.
