I do not believe this to be a good policy. A student, not combining promotions, activating a new number, should be able to receive the Student Promo. Otherwise you are penalizing them for already being a Wind Customer, instead of appreciating their support.

Sorry "Moose" but no agreement here - One Data Stick & two Phones, very few glitches, very decent service so far (five months), HUGE savings. Add the no long distance charges, never having to keep track of my unlimited minutes slots, no worry of exceeding Text or Data caps, I am very happy. Could they do better? Yep. Can they be frustrating sometimes? For sure. But nowhere near the annoyance of dealing with multiple levels of Customer Service of the Big 3 in the past, and receiving the same useless answer with no way out due to a CONTRACT.

Never be sorry for constructive comments, and yours have been way better than a lot of Forum Users. Wind definitely has a huge marketing gap going in North Oshawa, don't understand why they cannot provide a decent (or any) answer.

To Wind - Pay Before or Pay After, Customers have a right to an invoice, do not duck the issue - your inability to properly provide one at this time.

I live in Oshawa and skirt the edge of Wind coverage regularly - when ever the Rogers signal is stronger that Wind the phone switches to Away but because I am physically within the boundaries of the Home Zone I believe the roaming is blocked (in that area) so essentially I get no service. I keep my phone on manual network selection "locked" to Wind and only change that if I am outside the Home Zone for a reasonable period. Works fine for me since the Missed Calls text reminder and Voicemail covers the occasional time that I may have ...

Don't mean to knock on you but it is a fact that Wind will have both network and coverage issues for quite a while. I have been with them about 5 months with 3 phones and am quite happy overall with major savings. I would not, however, consider a Data Stick or tethered phone stable enough for the type of work you are apparently doing. If a Data Stick is a necessity for you, you should consider the "Older" more stable providers, even though I HATE making that suggestion.

I have the Maple and love it. I find Wifi to be very useful in keeping my Data usage minimal. Great talk & text, nice email & IM, passable web surfing. Battery life can be annoying though, I charge every night and can never miss a night. I do use it hard in fairness, even have Garmin on it since I am directionally challenged :(

I have the Maple and love it. I have no issues with signal (though the Nokia is supposed to be the best for signal) and find the Wifi to be very useful in keeping my Data usage minimal. My wife has it on a Nokia used solely for IM, email and occasional web surfing (news mainly) - more than enough for that. However if you would even consider YouTube or downloads of any sort, move up to a better plan.

If the main reason for a Data plan is Skype usage to Florida, pay for the US add-on. Skype works fine on the Maple, I have it, but Skype is a separate business and you must pay their rates. The US add-on and the cheapest data plan are the same price of course.

With the exception of the Chat plan per second billing would make no difference. For those requiring the Chat plan, it is generally an emergency or low use device that again makes no real difference. For nit-picker trolls from the Competition, its a huge manufactured issue. And I do hope Wind leaves this thread alone....

Have the Maple 5 months, LOVE IT. Lots of Apps to customize it almost perfectly. Great calls, texts and internet. Wifi works nicely too.

On my Maple I installed Garmin XT, works very good with turn by turn. Occasional glitch if I receive a call during GPS use - the voice quits and I have to reboot phone to have GPS voice again, no other phone functions are affected. Having an installed App ensures no Data use required, especially since I generally need the GPS outside a Wind Home Zone.

Yep, battery life is tight, and I use my Maple as a GPS with Garmin XT installed, so I did buy a car charger.

My Maple is about 4 months old and works flawlessly. I work it hard since it is a business phone and it also spends a good bit of time daily tethered. I have no complaints and am considering buying a spare just in ca this one fails. I have many add-on apps customizing it beautifully to my needs. And all at a miserly $200 + tax.

To the best of my knowledge there is no charge (other than any closing costs at the present provider) and the port can be requested at any time. The only issue you may encounter is the current promotional credit for a ported number, you may need to call Wind and clarify.

Very nice to hear the good - similar usage for me except tethering has consumed 1GB data to date for this month, I use my phone for a small business I own. Also not a single dropped call this month. Single glitch was signal drop during a recent thunder storm.

In my opinion yes, much better. There are still holes but you are comparing 1 year of building to 20 years for the Big 3, cannot compare favorably for a few more years.

Call Wind direct, try another location, you will find answers. I have been a Customer for about 5 months and except an issue with a Data plan change, that was dealt with in a reasonable manner, I have been quite happy. I also have the HTC Maple and love it. Yes, it needs a recharge daily but I have many apps running in the background. I have noticed it prefers the wall charger for a proper charge, takes way much longer on a PC USB or car charger.

Was in Ottawa two weekends ago for four days, just ten minutes walk from Parliament. Service was fine, voice and data, no issues for me and no additional cost since it is a home zone. My hotel wanted $16 per day for internet so I tethered instead with no issues.

Yes, yes & yes. My only gripe is battery life but I do run quite a lot and am definitely causing it. I keep Email, Calendar & Contact constantly syncing. I run Facebook, Skype & Fring (for IM) full time. I tether via WMWifiRouter several times a day. I use Garmin for GPS sometimes, and of course I talk & text. Considering buying a second one for a spare, would be in big trouble if this one died.

Visited Ottawa last weekend for 4 days, Westin Hotel at the side of the Rideau Centre, great signal throughout. Had it tethered also (Westing wanted $16/day) and was great. Go for it...

I bought the Maple mainly because of price point but find it very nice. Windows Mobile still has a decent range of apps available and I was able to configure it to my liking. I use Fring for IM & Tweet, and the Facebook app. I have tons more but not relevant to your question.

Using a Data Stick exactly that way - have one PC that its plugged into and using ICS, its shared by three others. Not as stable or fast as DSL or Cable but quite decent, I would say 98% uptime. Been doing about 15GB monthly with no reduction I can see. Have 3 months to go on the 50% off promo so will definitely keep it for now, great value.

Have the Data Stick as well and have used it shared between 4 or 5 computers (via ICS) with no issue. Occasional glitch for a short period but overall very stable. On vacation have had it shared and running full time for 4 days.

Had this problem, called Support, they advised that an unknown amount of Customers were experiencing this issue with Wind-to-Wind calling, they were "working on it" with no time frame identified as yet.

I live in Oshawa myself and have experienced no issues when I am in Pickering. My visits are mainly around the 401 area in the south though but I seem to remember it was fine up to Steeles / Taunton.

Changing and / or porting a number to an existing phone will result in no changes to the data on the phone. To port a number, that number must be on a current functioning account and you must maintain the account until the port is completed. If your Rogers account has lapsed the number will most likely not be available to port.

I don't understand the reference to wifi unlocked. Social BB is a cellular data plan, wifi can be used to access a home (or other) wireless network and bypass the limitations of the Social BB plan. Could you clarify?

I would be quite happy paying higher actually just eliminate all the non-optional addons like 911 fees and such - if you (the Consumer) cannot opt out, quote the actual total of the plan you must pay. AND DEFINITELY, NO SYSTEM ACCESS FEE!

I can understand your frustration and would agree some sort of cap should be in place but if the cap was equal to the unlimited plan, some would not sign up, they would gamble to see if they can save on usage some months. Maybe a cap of $50 or $60 might be a reasonable idea to avoid gouging yet encouraging subscription to a monthly plan.

I have been waiting for a better selection of phones, and debating the value of a handset I do not really like but with a $150 credit, versus one later that I may really like but no credit. Extending the credit would almost 100% guarantee my business.

I do not subscribe to the bundled services concept outside of cellular. I use Bell for TV, Rogers for Internet and three different providers across five handsets for mobile. I will be changing all mobile to Wind as soon as the Handsets offered expands hopefully sensibly (and maybe sensible plan combos too?). I use YAK for long distance only and that will likely be dropped when I switch to Wind. I would prefer to see bundles allowing shared minutes / data between Family phones where unlimited is not required on all - or alternately some sort of multiple handset discount. ...

Since Wind sells this for $450 plus tax plus warranty, am I the only one not seeing a benefit? @Cellular maybe try eBay? Unlocked only matters if you are not going to use Wind.

For my two cents worth - Data plans starting at a lower price are needed, and is the single reason I do not currently have one. $35 per month just to check emails and the occasional Google Map is way excessive. There are a few of us out there that do not tether or live on YouTube :-)

Unfortunately any calls on Wind Away goes over Rogers and results in $0.25 per minute charge (I believe). If you are normally a Home Zone it might be worth the effort to call Wind and request some sort of credit.

Pay the bill / add funds, restore your service then call them after the current melt down has ended and ensure you receive some additional credit for all the hassle.

I am also in (North) Oshawa and even though it has been a stable Home Zone for the two weeks I have been with Wind, its now showing Wind Away always. Better get fixed fast or the other two phones I ported yesterday will be returned even faster, my wife has little patience I am afraid.

Mine works like a charm, and I have ported three to date. Minor glitch here or there, nothing to cry about, especially considering the short months of operation.

Within a couple of hours of my noticing the problem, all phones returned solidly to Home Zone with no issues since. I can live with the occasional glitch, even serious ones, but consider it a major problem that a Company trying to build its Clientele on the concept of simplicity and transparency cannot find the time to post a note on this forum at least acknowledging an issue if not explaining it. So far all we can do is guess at the reason for this issue.

Garmin Mobile XT on a card, had to fiddle with the GPS options a little but now works like a charm with good usage of limited screen space and no data usage. Single annoyance for me is I cannot figure out how to create a shortcut from the Start Menu in WM6.5 so have to navigate to the EXE file on card via File Explorer.

I kinda agree with both sides here - I believe that Mobilicity has some very attractive "looking" plans that will certainly appeal to the demographics they are targeting, and I believe that Wind is a very nice change ( I have been a Customer for about 6 weeks now). If the competition is based on pricing, and it will be, Wind will lose a reasonable slice in the GTA. If the competition is based on Customer Service, Wind wins at the Store level (at least in south Whitby, they are the best) and fails terribly at the Call Centre / ...

"One of the ways that we're a different company is that we don't penalize people for being on a prepaid plan" except no US roaming and for me even the Canada roaming does not work. As far as top up goes - "By stopping by one of the growing list of retailers who carry top-up cards" - maybe you should confirm that the growing list actually have started selling the cards, or are even aware of it. Growth pains are expected and excused, but some are becoming quite painful, sorry.

I have the Maple and for $200 its no Cadillac but it fits my needs very nicely. Great calendar & contact management synced with Outlook, nice Wifi swapping nicely between Data & my router (at work and home) keeping my Gmail accounts current and all Messenger accounts via Fring. Also have MagiCall nicely screening all the telemarketing area codes and unknown numbers. And have WMWifiRouter ready in an instant to have the Maple pretend to be a Wifi Hot Spot for my Laptop, and at really nice speeds too. Have Google Maps when in Home Zone and Garmin XT on ...

I do not know your specific situation but I have always wandered into BlockBuster a couple of days before and bought the topups for all three of our phones right there without any issues. Easy as pie to enter PINs via handsets for which ever I do not have with me.

I have found BlockBuster to be perfect also for anything I need. Right now Wind Cust Service sucks, and that will take some time to improve. Plans are good and network improving daily, not bad for the New Guy. Just take the BlockBuster option for now.

Unlocking a phone just removes the subsidy restriction to a specific carrier. A Rogers 9700 is not capable of accessing the frequencies used by Wind, its radio is not designed for it. Sorry.

I believe that call screening must be done by the phone itself if capable - Blackberry Bold, HTC Maple and I believe the Nokia all have apps you can purchase.

If you mean you want to call a 416 number assigned to a MagicJack from your Wind Mobile phone - yes, it is a local call. MagicJack takes care of the VoIP connection between the 416 area code and whereever the MagicJack is physically connected to the internet.

I can also say that I have experienced very few of the issues that seem to represent 80% of the complaints posted - signal is reasonable even though I am on the fringe, dropped calls are minimal, and I have avoided the overloaded / understaffed Customer Service Centre by simply dropping by my local Block Buster. No blling issues to date either. Have two phones in the family with Wind, about to add two more.

Fix your Call Center properly and quickly, a major beef of this Forum second to coverage (in my opinion). And stop behaving as if ignoring it in the Forum will make it a lesser issue, didn't work for ostriches either :-)

I have the Maple and even though many will not have much good to say about Windows Mobile, with good reason, I love it. I have WMWifiRouter on it and it works like a charm, makes the Maple into a mobile wifi access point with no pain, very easy configuration.

I prefer Wind's current voice plans structure and pricing. Public Mobile must keep prices lower to compensate for their comparably limited coverage, and is targeted at those that only require such coverage. Wind's target, while not very clear or sensible at times, is definitely much larger and the plans compare well against the big three.

With the exception of International roaming all other features should be the same pre or post paid. My bank allows me to setup automated monthly payments so I have Wind setup monthly on the 20th, more than enough time to process. I am pre-paid deliberately to ensure I never receive triple digit shocker invoices after the fact, no unknown roaming charges over $100 for me, or excessive data usage.

Unless I am mistaken the transfer credit offer ended April month end with May being the last free first month offer and the transfer credit issued after approx 45 days at $30 per month for the next five months. If you have signed up after the end of April I would suggest your account simply needs money. Can't say much more from the info you have supplied.

On the road either phone will need a Data plan for Facebook or Internet access, at home the Maple would easily use your Wifi for any such functions (no data plan required). The Nokia does not have Wifi making any non-data plan usage very difficult (via bluetooth to a PC) or even impossible.

I have no experience with the Huawei models but based on comments in this forum and my experience with the Nokia, my wife's phone, it definitely has the best signal of all currently offered.

Sorry Folks, had the Maple from the day I signed up and still love it. Yes the OS can be annoying sometimes but it has been around for a while and consequently has a decent range of apps for most needs. I have Garmin for GPS on the SD Card, no Data required since it is most needed outside of the Home Zone (for me), a nice Call Manager for any number that annoys me (and only designated callers overnight), Fring for all my IM needs 24/7, email from multiple providers 24/7, WMWifiRouter allowing fast and easy tether for my ...

I have the Maple and use it fairly intensively - voice, data and wifi. I usually get 16 hours then must recharge. If I turn off wifi and keep email checking and other data usage set for long intervals / low usage, I can get two days almost.

I live in Oshawa slightly south west of Harmony and Taunton, no signal issues, steady good reception. Very occasional glitch, maybe occasional service or upgrade to tower. Definitely signal issues north or east of that intersection though. Most of the remainder of Oshawa quite good.

I use Fring and it works fine on Wifi with no other changes needed.
