@Johnn I can clearly tell you are not an android user if you didn't understand EraqEE's comment... Look at the Motorola Droid X or Droid or even the Samsung Vibrant. With the Nexus one you get stock Froyo by google but with motorola, samsung and htc phones they add hideous gui's on top of the existing operating system and put preloaded apps. (ie. HTC Sense, Samsung's Touch Wiz etc...) If I were to pick an Android phone..it would be hands down the Nexus One. :D

I assume so because it's fetching that information from somewhere while in away right? I used to be charged when in away on my bb when I didn't even use my phone.. To avoid extra charges I set my "network mode" to 3g only instead of the default which is 2g and 3g.

Really they've reduced the time you can return it already? I stand corrected then if you want to test it out then make sure you test the reception and only go over any of the limits exbell has said.

I am very happy with the service so far and I recommend it to everyone! Just buy the phone on pay before and do this if you are worried about reception: 1) buy phone 2) do not talk for more than 30 minutes (return policy is 30 days or 30 minute talk) 3) go to places you go usually and see how reception is then decide to keep or return. I also highly recommend the pay before option. :D

Here is what I recommend you doing: Sign up for wind but do not talk for more than 30 minutes (they have 30 day or 30 minute talk policy). See how reception is in the places you go and if you are not satisfied return it.

The Samsung Vibrant does work with WIND! You can buy it from cellworldco (authorized wind dealer online). The vibrant is the galaxy s that works with WIND. Also you can get the Xperia version that works with wind and many other android phones! There are quite a few that work with WIND and you can buy online.

As a Social Blackberry user myself yes you get unlimited access to all of those. :D But Web, and other apps that use the internet need wifi to be accessed. I recommend you go on a pay before account with WIND if you are afraid of roaming charges and set network to 3g only on bb if you are really really afraid lol. (essentially doing this makes you not able to access rogers away network I've heard)

The Blackberry Pearl 9100 should be out in August (its confirmed to be coming to WIND soon) but I can't guarantee 100% if it will come before September. But it is coming soon.

I downloaded the toronto maple leafs app, weather network app to name a few over wifi. There are never additional charges for this. What I do for my bb to make sure that I don't accidentally connect to rogers away and pick up accidental data charges is "manage connections > mobile network options > network mode > change to 3g"

I am not understanding what's going on. Pay before customers only get taxes on the amount that is due at the end of the month (your plan + tax). Are you saying that now we get taxed for any money we put into our account each time? :S

Yes, though android is a great platform (certainly in the future) I think WIND also has a job in delivering windows mobile phones/blackberry phones for those who have invested money for apps on each of the respective platforms. Wholeheartedly agree, the data plans here are horrendous. We should have affordable unlimited data add-ons ($35) and at least a basic 3 gb data add-on for $25.

@ohzopants I agree though koodo's tab system emulates a contract in some aspects (deposit x amount towards the phone and pay off the deposit every month with 10% of your bill) it makes for a very little cancellation fee. (the cancellation fee is the deposit balance (if any) in negatives)

@Johnn No need to be that harsh.. although I agree that they are entitled to a reasonable return to all the mountains of resources they are putting into this project, you can't just boast about bringing change and not delivering. And yes I would say 300 minutes, caller id, voice mail, free incoming text messaging shouldn't be more than $25 a month... when you really compare our rates to the rest of the world, its just horrendous.

Great launch! The only thing that many of us are concerned over is the fact that Wifi access on devices such as the Bold without data plans are locked and inaccessible. I do hope you address these little quirks as you continue to grow. On another note, I think the concept of the WIND away zone you described is great! And thank you for keeping the community section of the site and wanting to hear criticisms to improve your service, it is certainly unheard of for wireless companies and it really does show that you want to tailor your plans ...

One question, did you buy a SIM card or get a phone from WIND? Or did you transfer your phone number? (curious to know why you'd be having problems) @Victor. I have seen his posts and though I am not a WIND mobile customer yet..his situation does look bad. I think the deeper problem is that the WIND team can't help this customer who's been calling them for ages just to get his phone to work.

I'd have to agree personally I always thought that WIND should adopt the 16 month model like the UK or at most 2 year contracts. But if they were to adopt a tab system like Koodo has (in order to pay off the phone little by little) I think that'd eliminate the need for contracts.

Well scratch that then.. Wind offering the HTC Magic would be great! And more affordable than the Nexus or X10. I do hope that WIND is actually trying to get the HTC Magic or a another newer Android phone.

They already have a $150 credit for people who transfer from other carriers and with that WIND has gone far beyond what people expected. WIND is already giving us great prices, caller id standard, unlimited province wide talking for $35 and cheap phones. Expecting to them to give out free phones without contract makes no business sense..its exactly the same as a bank giving out free money.

Anthony has a point the Shaw President reffering to WIND as camels as a slur abour Egyptians, Public Mobile going on Fox News (a right wing news station famous for racist fear mongering) talking about how WIND is backed by Egyptians like its a bad thing. I wouldn't count on it even if it were compatible. (which it is not) Palm is not getting many sales and is setting up their company for sale. It doesn't look like the WebOS platform will live on for long.

It is not WIND's fault for the phone not having wifi. But you are right why WIND haven't gotten a touchscreen phone that has a good web browsing experience with wifi yet is beyond me.

Keep in mind the 5230 does not have wifi but the HTC Maple does. Personally I am waiting till WIND get a touch screen phone with good web browsing experience (android). I don't really like the Maple though since its based on Windows Mobile.

Wind still has a better deal. Koodo is ripping people off claiming "unlimited internet" read the fine print next time. Taken from Koodo website: * For just $10 a month, you can enjoy unlimited web browsing on your mobile phone. Restrictions: ¤Excludes video streaming, downloads and application fees. Applies to web browsing within Canada.

Also Petro also has additional fees and none of their phones even have a decent web browser (if at all). WIND is the only company who offers "true unlimited data".

How is the coverage in Markham? I've heard from many people that Markville Mall is essentially dead (even though wind claims to cover it in their coverage map) in terms of coverage and there are many areas where there is no coverage at all. What are people's experiences?

Rogers/Bell give you free phones sometimes because they enforce contracts upon you to force you to stay with them for 3 years whether you like it or not. WIND gives you phones for low as $70 where you can stay as long as you want and they have to keep you happy for you to stay..you are not forced to stay. WIND is much better since contracts are not existent..which means WIND has to fight to keep its customers happy.

Apparently the screen is touchscreen so they are trying to please the Bold and Storm fans who want a multi-touch interface but also a keyboard. I can't say if I like it yet but it'll all depend on whether I can hold and type on it comfortably.

Go to virgin mobile's site right now and tell me their data rates.. WIND Mobile has far better plans than any carrier out there and people STILL complain. I am not even a WIND Customer (in fact I won't be until they beef up their network and coverage issues) but this is just ridiculous!

Mobilicity's coverage map is horrendous, I want to know the exact street (approxiamately) they guarantee coverage. WIND does exactly that, mobilicity on the other hand doesn't allow you to zoom. Also WIND's site is designed much better imo. (in terms of organization)

(it's really the one I was doubtful about) In any case I guess when I sign up for WIND when the Pearl 3G comes I will initially get only the social blackberry plan+ Always Talk and see how it does with wifi only. If the app store or IM don't work via wifi home network I'll probably go with the charged plan+ Chat Plan. In Either case I'll be paying $35/month but in the end I just want wifi with all these services. :D

Let me start off by saying people should sign up for WIND or Mobilicity as long as its not Bell, Telus or Rogers and their other companies (koodo, fido etc..) It's really the only way to go forward. If both WIND and Mobilicity lose..its ultimately bad for the consumer. I really think people like you should stop with the "fear tactics" with words like "get their customers back" which is based on no facts. Why are you pitting these carriers against each other? As for Mobilicity..you also need to pay at least $55 dollars a month to get simple things ...

Again Mobilcity has its pros and cons and WIND has its pros and cons. Quit expecting WIND to keep on lowering prices to the point of bankruptcy so you can go back to Rogers.

You should have called RIM. They have support trained for exactly these issues. I am sure they can help you find the reason why you cannot connect since they'll have a "trouble shooting path".

The safer bet would be to ask WIND to include Pakistan in their "MY COUNTRY International Calling" add-on. Which I am sure they are trying hard to do.

@tsunawmi What the heck are you talking about? Did you even read the question? I just want to see if WIND will block data access if I am off wifi. At NO POINT did I say I want free data. It's you who needs to "shake up and smarten up" and actually read the question and try to understand it. @justmoe I do use data plans but I want to know if WIND will charge me even if I want to block data. Is that a crime? I support and love WIND but honestly some people are just blind fanboys ...

Well actually you can easily go over if you stream a lot of music or video (ie. youtube)but for things like Email, visiting mobile websites, IM, Facebook/Twitter apps 500 mb is enough.

Well unlimited talk on that day is a good idea. :D Unlimted data would be quite a problem..I can see thousands of people streaming youtube the entire day. haha

And if 400 is too much to ask for, 300 minutes at least would be nice. ($10 more per month for 200 more minutes)

And its an "Affordable" android phone believe it or not. WIND should definitely look into this. :)

Admittedly the screen resolution sucks but that's what you have to do to get cheaper phones.

@JudasPriest It is impossible to access any apps other than the ones you have unlimited access to when you are on the social blackberry plan. And I also disabled data while on roaming (even though I stay in Wind Home Zones just to be safe)

The way that social blackberry works is that you cannot access anything with data unless it is in your plan. I've looked at my usage details and I am being charged for data for sure. When I access msn I am charged, access facebook I am charged. (all of these I have unlimited access to)

I don't have any APN specified and I never did. I know the title of this post is kind of aggressive and made to draw people into reading my problem. But it's been 2 weeks and I hope this post get's WIND's attention because this problem shouldn't take more than 2 weeks to "investigate" while my money is rapidly being taken away.

I already have disabled data on roaming first time I got my phone and I don't do any mms or any of the other fancy stuff you mentioned.

Hi Amin123, click activate at top of this page and try the live chat I get in much faster than with phone calls. The reps have no idea why I am getting charged (and it's still happening) but hopefully they can fix your problem.

I have no idea who rated this 1 star because this would be Brilliant! If WIND get service on the TTC many commuting Torontonians would switch.

@PhoneLess I think the AWS devices are fine. Nexus One, N900, Samsung Vibrant (great android phone), HTC HD2,Blackberry Bold and Pearl.. and may more. I think there is something there for lovers of various operating systems.

This is exactly the Android phone that WIND needs to sell! (in addition to a lower end phone)

@mike031 that callback is for customer service..I have to go through customer service to talk to the tech department and when they forward me to them.. no one is there or willing to call back.

I meant when I phone then I get the message "no one is available to take your call" then I leave my number for call back.

To clear things up as to why I am posting this: Because hopefully WIND employees and the people in charge of technical support fix their problems.

@mike031 are you sure? I talked to a customer rep if this avoids away charges and she said "no".

The sad thing is I am getting these charges while in Home Zones. I have a question: If you set your phone to manual selection mode then power off and turn the phone back on..does your phone go back on WIND? Because for me it just stays on SOS and never finds the wind network.

What is your network mode? I am trying to think why mine doesn't reconnect. Are there any other settings I should know of?

Do what I do: Add this number to your contacts as "WIND minutes" or wind stats.. number is.. *130# when you dial this number it tells you how many minutes and texts you have left. Also minutes and texts rollover (meaning unused minutes or texts from last month you can use on your current month)

That's the thing I disabled data on roaming on my blackberry..but WIND says that it doesn't actually does not disable roaming. So wind essentially forces us to be charged by rogers with data and we have no choice.

If you only top up the amount you are supposed to monthly and no extra funds are in your account..no you cannot.

That is the great advantage of pre-paid. You only pay your monthly fees and can never get extra charges. :D (unless you choose to have extra funds in your account in which case you may pick up if you do a call on roaming)

What do you mean student plan? Their rates are already better than the competition. WIND is not like Rogers/Telus/Bell who give out these cheap "student plans" only so that they can lure as many people into 3 year contracts. WIND is all about no contracts and low and fair rates.

@WindyN900 do you have a source for that one? I mean India and China have much more residents here in Canada and they have unlimited plans so I don't see how this logically works. As for the original question I am sure WIND is working on it as many other users have told WIND employees that they want Pakistan to be included.

They are getting the new Blackberry Pearl and by end of year they will get one android phone or maybe two (not sure of the models) @dcheng228 wow take it easy will ya? It really depends if you take a lot of photos or want a small form factor I will recommend you wait for the 9100. If you are going to type a lot, read emails, web browse then the Bold.

Text the number "*130#" to check your minutes/text and see if wind to wind brings that value down. I usually save that number in my contacts as like wind minutes so I can quickly access it regularly. :D

The Blackberry 9100 and a few android phones will be coming out for WIND. (mobilesyrup did an interview with them) If you can bear the wait..I would wait.

Why would you need it if you get unlimited province wide minutes for $35? But if you are only interested in the $15 plan then no. But minutes do rollover from one month before and texts as well.

Well I love the blackberry os and android as well. But I am not a google fanboy. I have to admit the iPhoen os is brilliant and I can see why people are waiting for it to come on T-Mobile.
