The reason is that the apps on the Blackberry are created by RIM, and go through their servers, so there are safeguards in place. That doesn't exist for the other phones.

The rule that the value of the metal needs to have the same value of the coin was phased out in the late 60's the last time a coind was minted that was worth the metal was in 1968. the switched production halfway through the year to eliminate the silver.

sxymobile just rewrites news from other websites, there have been whole passages taken from Mobile Syrup. The article about the the iPhone exclusivity was post on Mobile in the morning and Sxy in the evening. The picture was lifted from Mobile and the last half of the 2nd paragraph is nearly identical. It just a slightly re-written cut and paste of the Mobile Syrup article with poor spelling. If you are going to promote a website that you claim you aren't connected to, go with M.S. It's spelled correctly and the news is arrives sooner.

The Always Talk plan has unlimited calling. So the $10 charge isn't so much to for unlimited calling, as it is to convert your minutes to long distance. The Always Chat only has 50 minutes, with the long distance charge of 15 cents a minute using 50 minutes of long distance will only cost $7.50. So the add on of $10 to convert your minutes to long distance doesn't make sense as it would be cheaper to pay by the minute.

the reason the social add on works with the Blackberry is because the apps are created by Blackberry and all of the data runs through their servers. There is no such thing for Windows.

a company needs to wait a couple of years before reassigning a number. There are using the 703 numbers as temps and going in order to create numbers starting from the 701 series.By doing this by the time they have used up the 701 and 702 numbers the 703 numbers should have had their required period of inactivity completed so that they can be assigned. My temp number was actually a 289 area code so that they could save the Toronto numbers as they are more in demand.

the problem with unlocking other companies phones is that there is a rather large black market trade of people signing contracts with fraudulent identification to get the cheap phone, and then unlocking them and reselling them. Wind would be aiding in large scale fraud against the mobile industry, I'm not saying every one will be committing fraud, but it's possible and Wind would be aiding that.

@Maggie I'm going to be honest,I care very little about the reception up there. I was up there for a specific purpose. Taking the 30 seconds to post here, is much quicker than the 5-10 minutes calling in to speak to a rep.

I've got the "Always Talk" and unlimited for data. I realized that I don't know anyone outside of the province and I hate voice mail so there was no point in getting the shout plan.

@ Big Ang The support desk I worked at was internal facing, I never once spoke to a customer that was giving money to my company. We weren't going to lose business based on replies. All I'm stating that any help desk worth it's weight in salt needs everyone communicating with the same language to provide consistency. I'm not commenting on any level of support, but I for one am fully behind the language in the responses that Wind provides here. It's part of support center best practices to have everyone communicate with the same level of speech.

They aren't necessarily Cut and Paste answers. I used to work at a support desk and there is a specific language that you are required to use to maintain a consistency among responses, as well as keep a constant level of professionalism through the various reps.

Wind's policy is to unlock their phones after 3 months so that people don't go and buy their phones cheap and sell them else where. Given how Wind is carrying themselves, I don't think they would go out and start unlocking other companies phones it would be tantamount to them doing to other people what they don't want done to themselves.

yeah, they ran out of 416 numbers a long time ago, periodically they will pop when some one changes their phone number, however there is a requirement that the number must have a 3 year gap between assigning to a new person. But the number will stay with the carrier that last had the number. So Wind won't have any however perhaps in 3 years.

The student plan proposed above is way better than the $15 plan. Once you start catering specifically to one crowd you would need to cater to all crowds to avoid losing customers. If anything charge $5 to turn the 150 province wide minute into Canada wide minutes and open up that option to everyone, and make it specific to the Chat plan. It would be similar to the pointless $10 charge for the Always Talk to make the province wide minute country wide minutes.

I think people are focused on the fact that they don't need what is being offered for that price, as opposed to the actual price point. Most people are paying $35 dollars for their plan. Do I need that much in my plan? No. Was I paying that amount or more for less with my old provider? Yes.

When I scanned for networks in the states I generally cam across AT&T 2G, and both 2G & 3G for T-Mobile.

I spend last week in the states, drove from Toronto to Florida and back, I never once picked up a roaming signal at any time after I crossed the border.

and the 30 minute thing is industry standard, form my understanding it has to do with agreements that they have in place so that they can send the product back to the vendor for credit.

I live near Kensington I've had no major issues with reception, they've got a tower near Augusta and Dundas. But stay away from the Huawei. My girlfriend had that one briefly and there were a bunch of headaches with it. If you aren't too sure, get a phone do not port your number and try it out in a few spots where you'll be the most, if all goes well think about going into a store and porting your number.

For those wondering, "Away Zone" coverage stopped when I was crossing the bridge to the US, I was a passenger and fell a sleep so I'm not entirely sure where the "Home Zone" cut out. While I was down there, I was able to pick up both the 2G and 3G networks for T-Mobile, as well as the 2G network for AT&T. I confirmed that I was able to connect to all 3 networks, just to be on the safe side in case I was required to call 911.

it basically seems like they are responsible for the online billing aspect of the service. From looking at their website it appears that they are functioning in a manner similar to the third party credit and debit card processors, like Paymentech and Moneris, found in brick and mortor stores. It appears to be one step closer towards goiing paperless. From the sounds of what they do teh option to top up a pre-paid phone by going to a website will be much easier.

we're sitting at a point where anything is better than the current status quo. A decade ago there were no roaming fees in canada, at least not on the plan I had . It was the cheapest plan offerd and only had 100 minutes. As far as educating, we're a different cell phone culture, however it is rapidly changing there are enough posts regarding companies in the states and what they offer. Rockjock, I'm fully aware of the ownership structure and Egyptian connection between Wind mobile and Wind Hellas. My first cell phone was from Clearnet about a decade ago. Charges for call display, roaming, voice mail, SAF etc. were just simply not there. Over the course of the years I've dropped features one at a time because the cost versus use wasn't justifiable. Alot of people simply do not factor those in the over all cost. It's the little things that add up. My $25 plan magically costs $45 a month. You should know Rogers, like Bell, uses the call center equivalent of a sweat shop. Levels 2, 3 and the smart phone dept, are the only ones with real training. Call center staff needs to know how to properly answer a phone and read from a binder. "Now answer me this. what will it hurt to show the handsets? Unless they have none. I can't recall the company that I called, most liklt it was an outside vendor that my company was dealing with, but part way through the on hold process there was an option to changethe style of music played. And please no voice actived prompts, give me the option of pressing a number on my phone.

Here's a shot in the dark. There is a third party service in Australia where by way of a website you can set up for a tech support agent to call you in a specified period of time. It's a bit beyond the basic "call me back" feature. But I remember trying to deal with tier 2 and 3 supprt and they always called at the least convienent times. The only reason I stayed with Rogers was because of unlocked phones. I've not pruchased one ffrom them in years. all I need to do is wait for a larger selection of unlocked UMTS phone for Wind.

As far as companies Indigo is doing a great deal in regards to environmental policies going as far as leaning on publisher to change the paper being used in books. They've got a couple stores under the name Pistachio, based on renewable resources and environmentally friendly products ( http://www.epistachio.com/ ). As far as specific to the mobile industry the Motorola "Renew" is a good example, the phone isn't exactly top notch but they are going in the right direction.

I've not bought a phone from a brand specific store in years. The only good thing about Rogers is the availability of unlocked GSM phones. where I actually buy it from depends on where it's available

There is a big difference between lost and stolen. The problem with IMEI banning is that it is that the system can be abused. In theory I can sell my phone and then have the IMEI banned, or have someone elses IMEI banned as part of a revenge tactic. Doing such a thing would first require all customers to register the IMEI to both the owner and the user of the device. In cases of abuse the liabilities that Wind would be far more hassle than any benefits it might entail. However if the owner and user of the phone ...

Should you head down to the states, an unlocked phone will allow you to buy a sim card and go pre-paid while you are down there to avoid any roaming fees. I'm with Rogers and have been using unlocked phones for awhile now. While I have yet to go the pre-paid route while travelling it's a nice option to have.

It's a standard Chinese knock off. if you scroll down and read the description the phone is actually a "Nokla" as opposed to a "Nokia". I used to own a similar Chinese knock off, my phone broke and I needed one quick, they aren't bad provided that you understand what you are actually buying.

Send a copy of the ticket when it is opened so that the customer can see the incident (confirm details if require), as well as a ticket closure notification giving the resolution. I don't know the specifics about the phone but if you are currently using it in Canada the answer is no. For a phone to work it needs to be compatible with the AWS 1700 and 2100 frequencies.

If the plan is actually "unlimited" tethering should be a different plan. There is huge difference between how much data a person will consume with a tethered computer and how much they'll consume using the the actual phone. If there is a defined amount of data in a plan then there should be no restrictions to tethering, but the average person who wants unlimited and no restrictions on tethering will probably use far more data in a day than the average person will use on device in a month.

Everyone gets paid vacation it's required by law. In Ontario it's equivalent to 2 weeks (4%), the employer has the option of either accruing and paying out yearly (or at the employees request) or to add it each paycheque that the employee receives. I don't think they would have lost the right as they did not initiate an appeal. Clement's review is most likely independant of any right to appeal the GL has because they never requested it. Should IC make the wrong decision they use it then.

Despite it being under the umbrealla of the Ministry of Heritage, in regards to the matters related to the telecom industry the CRTC reports to Industry Canada, as such they can over turn the CRTC is needed when dealing with telecommunications.

and P.S. Cable companies, media, publishers etc are adminstered by the CRTC who reports to the Ministry of Heritage when dealing with those industries. The only time the ministry of Heritage comes into play with telecom is when the companies also control an interest in companies that have branches in those sectors (i.e. Rogers cable)

The CRTC made several points in their ruling that pointed to their decision being subjective. Point 33 of the ruling states "Consequently, the Commission determines that Globalive has met the test for legal control" Point 34 states ". . .There is no one standard definition of control in fact . . ." The CRTC made a decision on where control of the company lies despite that there is "no one standard definition of control in fact" The lack of standard definition means a subjective decision.

I'm with Rogers, I haven't bought a phone from them in years. The only reason I've stayed with them is because of how easy it is to get unlocked GSM phones. The current phone is an unlocked ASUS, running windows mobile with Wi-Fi and GPS.

The impression that I got was basically "We're not in the wireless business, we're in the Manitoba business, not much interest outside the province". He seems to disagree with the current situation, however he doesn't give and clues to which way he leans on the argument. From what I've heard the agreement MTS signed with Rogers comes with hefty penalties should the break the agreement. Which makes sense as they're dealing with Rogers.

They are in charge of content and the main way of controlling content is by controlling the medium in which content is delivered. It grew from controlling the radio signals that could be used to deliver both entertainment as well as communications. The CRTC is supposed to report to Industry Canada in regards to telecommunications and the Ministry of Heritage when dealing with media outlets and content. It become sticky because the 3 major players sell both communications and and deliver media, whereas Globalive only delivers communications.

When I e-mailed the CRTC I made crack about how I couldn't understand why the same people who ensure Nickleback gets played on the radio has any say in how I get to communicated people, and they replied with the following: "the Commission reports to the Minister of Industry with respect to its mandate under the Telecommunications Act and to the Minister of Heritage under the Broadcasting Act."

I'm already part of the group. Prior to this I had already a long standing hatred of the CRTC because of Can-Con regulations. I had briefly thought about putting your name in brackets after "rallying the troops".

@Conan1, Are you serious? Seniors are a great group to sell to. Sure lots are on a fixed income, but there are also a ton where that fixed income is significant. No Kids, the house is paid for, and lots of time on their hands. As far as a basic user goes, seniors are perfect.

It's the "squeaky wheel gets the grease" syndrome. The only segment of the senior population that we hear about is the portion barely scraping by with the government pension, and the only portion of teenagers that we hear about are the ones with superfluous income. You hear about the trust fund kids and the impoverished seniors. You don't hear about the well off retirees or the poor teenagers. 80% of the money lies with 20 percent of the demographic. No cares about marketing to the 80% that have no money.

I've noticed that there aren't a great deal of dual sim phones on the market that are made by major companies. I've not actually seen one over here. Once they start making Chinese knock offs for the AWS spectrum then you'll have no issues getting a dual sim phone. A genuine iPhome or Mokia. The knock offs aren't bad provided you know what you are getting into, they're not the greatest but they aren't terrible.

There are two issue at hand. 1) if you buy the phone from a wireless provider it is often locked. And that means they have altered the software of the phone so that it can only read the SIM cards of the company that sold the phone. It is possible to get unlocked phones but you need to buy them from some one other than the wireless provider. 2) The other issue is that in North America the major carriers use different frequencies. The phone you use needs to work on the same frequency as the network that you want ...

I went with a dry loop from TekSavvy. The charge for dry loop will often vary by area, I pay $7 extra for mine but it's still cheaper than having an extra phone line.

There was always going to be a review by the CRTC. The Telus letter was specifically requesting a look into the ownership structure, and that request was well within their right. So the standard review involved a more in depth look into the structure. The amount of activity is because Globalive is not only the largest of the new entrants but was also the only carrier that had any sort of presence. it became a public event. I doubt there is an ability to appeal. This is a one time event that has no effect on foreign ownership restrictions. They fit the legal description of a Canadian company that fact was stated several times by the I.C and the CRTC. The issue was the subjective nature of "de facto" control.

By comparison the leaked pricing is great compared to what the average plan is with Robellus. The plans are only disappointing when compared to what people were hoping for. 90% of the users on this site come on and say "I want X for Y price". I can understand that, I mean I was hoping for a $50 unlimited everything. The alleged $35 plan blows my current plan out of the water. The problem with this is that for one people willing signed the contract no one forced them to, it was a choice that they made, it could cost way to much for Wind to pay for everyone else's mistakes., and two the people who didn't sign contracts with other companies will be forced to pay for the people who did. If wind wanted to do a trade in offer get X off the purchase of a phone when trading in your phone from another company, that is slightly better as everyone could take advantage of that.

The opening was put on hold by the CRTC. You can't immediately start running from a dead stop, it takes a couple days at least. And it would be foolish to release details prior to launch.

I have no issues with contracts provided there is a difference between the plans of those who subsidize and those who don't. However I've heard they might go the route that video games systems go and sell slightly below cost, but there has never been anything close to confirmation of that. It was part of a post on Howard.

The Bellus merger has been speculated for a couple years. The fact that they went halfers on the a new network just lends credence to the rumours. Telus dominates the West and Bell the East. I think if Globalive hadn't launched there would be issues with the regulators, however since there is a new player they might have an easier time pulling it off.

It has nothing to do with any sort of traffic control. It is due to the massive amount of traffic on the site since the I.C decision. It's a server issue, not a bandwidth issue.

They tried to launch in November, the CRTC blocked that. They just received approval on Friday, give them a few days, it will most likely happen this week.

The hit the heavy user and they hit the light user. I've never been able to get any sort of data on my phone, could never figure out the proper programming. And Rogers tech support was a joke. I had one phone where the clam shell version was classified as a smart phone,the more advanced candy bar format was not.

After reading the article I doubt he meant geographic areas. But more along the lines of areas of the business. Long distance, roaming etc. When a company is pitching no long distance in province you can really make that a geography specific plan.

For some one who's spent over a hundred lobbying for Wind I'm surprised this is your first post. Virgin was always owned in some respect by Bell, I believe they own 65% to start off with. They only recently bought the rest of it. The alleged leaked plans are on par with some of the retention plans or corporate sponsored plans, but they kill the plans that you could receive if you just walked off of the street and tried to get one. It's true but considering the pressure being applied by the big three it makes sense that they are waiting until the last minute before releasing details. As soon as they do release them it a given that Robellus will be altering what they offer, while annoying for the consumer it's a great business tactic.

Wind has the buying power of Orascom behind them, Orsacom has more mobile subscribers than all of the big three combined. So with that said the buying power to leverage a deal is much greater, so they will be buying the phones cheaper, and probably be taking less of a profit than the incumbents . This is just a theory, i had heard it mentiond on a different forum, it is in no way official info.

The call centers are in Mississauga, Windsor and Peterborough (sp?) which coincidentally happen to be in Canada. Make sure you research long and hard before posting incorrect facts.

I'm rating a 5 to make up for whoever flagged this. @sarfrazfamily. This phone is awesome and it is not one of the leaked phones but will run on the network. Lots of people want this phone, he is giving a method of getting it. Mabindur, nice work around, a bit long winded, but it was required. to properly describe the method.

It makes sense that the $15 model isn't sustainable. That's not to say the don't make money, but it's to say the doesn't create as much of a profit for the company compared to the more expensive brands. It's the same as in almost any business with the exception of food retailing. The average $15 user will either go over on their allotted service and pay extra fees or they will eventually move to one of the heavier price plans. Riley is usually good with his info. I had heard in mention on HoFo awhile back, but I wanted slightly more proof before sharing it. It only makes sense video game companies have been doing it for years, and really are they selling below cost or just making less profit? There incumbents are required to allow the new players to rent space on their towers as well as provide reasonable rates for roaming. I believe they would be required to place their own equipment.

Wind has said that they will accept unlocked handsets, but not to start. And unless your current unlocked phone supports the frequency that they won in auction then you wouldn't be able to use it anyway. Because they are using a completely new frequency there are only a handful of phone models that support their frequency, about a dozen or so.

They are selling phones at cost, they aren't making any money off of them. As far as bringing your own phone to Wind, if you are using your phone with Rogers now then chances are it won't work on Wind's spectrum. There aren't (m)any unlocked phones that will work with Wind and even less floating around the country. So really even if they allowed unlocked phones from the start, where in Canada are you going to buy one from?

All they did was change the name from "calling area" to "Home Zone". The only reason the area is small is because the network is being built. As the network expands the "Home Zone" will expand. The only reason you'd get charge outside of that area is because you'll be roaming on a different network. There are still no long distance fees, the only associate cost is roaming and that 25 cents a minute is going to Rogers. Roaming fees are inevitable with any new network that is being built. Unlimited everything costs $80. Always Shout - unlimited minutes, and text, no long distance across country $45, unlimted data $35. The only issue is that they are still building their network, so you're roaming once you leave the current coverage.

It was a fantastic launch, not only did I get to meet some of the people behind the screen name but I was recognized while I was there and approached by Aileen and Eryn. It was a fantastic event.

Wind was able to comment up until Friday, they have received more posts in the last 5 days then they did in the previous 4 months. Once thing settle down then there will be less of a staffing issue.

@ Lozange, I understand where to get unlocked GSM phones, I live at College and Bathurst, my last couple were bought in the College and Spadina area, But I have yet to see any AWS compatible phones through the normal unlocked phone channels. So it not if you can fins an dunlocked phone, it's if you can find an unlocked phone that will work.

Unless your phone is supports the AWS frequency you would be required to buy a new one anyway. If you are coming from any carrier other than T-Mobile in the states, your phone probably won't work.

The $15 plan is unlimited calls between people using Wind as their carrier nation wide, (no LD charges across Canada). The $35 plan is unlimited calls in province no matter who the carrier is (no LD in province), and unlimited calls between people using wind nation wide (no LD charges across Canada).

Number porting is a required by law however there are a couple issues that have caused the delay. 1) Wind rushed to open as soon as I.C made the announcement, they managed to stock store and finish installation in their stores. 2) While number portability is required by law, there is no requirement that the other companies are required to make it easy, currently they are configuring the systems so that the competitors system play nicely with Wind's. well if you wanted to bring your own phone you need to make sure that it will work with the WIND frequencies, the only other carrier who is using the frequency is T-Mobile in the states. If you want to use an unlocked phone you'd still need to find one that would work.

Koodo's tab is still a subsidy, the cost is burden on everyone. If they offered the phone on financing, i.e pay $X on top of your billit would be different. And I bought the BB it's awesome.

With Koodo's tab system the cost to cover the phone is still worked into the price of the plan. The only difference is that they allow you to pay off the phone early. 10% of you bill is earmarked to pay off the phone, however once the phone is paid off you're bill does not decrease. So even though your phone is paid off, you are still paying for the phone. They say it is added to your tab, but it is really just pre-paying for your next upgrade.

Do a hard reboot, turn of the phone, take out the battery, put the battery back in, turn on the phone. That should fix it.

well thing about if Twitter is included depends on the app you choose and your text message allowance. Many of the apps will allow you to post but it chews away at your text allowance, because that's how they send it. So in that respect it is included unofficially. Other apps will updat twitter by sending the info as data.

The Koodo "Tab" is still a phone subsidy, the only difference is that they allow you to pay off your contract sooner. The price of it is still built into the price of the plan. If your plan price dropped after you paid off your tab it would be different, but it doesn't. It's the same thing as any other contract except the cost of ending your contract is less than ending it else where because the phones aren't as good as the non-Koodo Telus plans.

They do use SIM cards but they are running a newer network type, AWS. It's in the GSM family.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. People who are disappointed and angry are far more likely to be vocal about it. I was hoping for $50 all inclusive, but it didn't happen, oh well. I get more for my money with Wind than I did with Rogers. I wasn't expecting the Moses to descend from the mountain top and bestow upon me an iPhone, I was expecting a new choice with better rates, and that's what I got.

The problem with the Koodo system is that your bill doesn't decrease once the phone is paid off. It's still a subsidy, they just gave it a different name.

I bought on the first day, and was one of the customer's being served when the internet went down. They were very apologetic and helpful, I bought the phone without activating it, and they gave me several options about how to go about getting it up and running. They said they would call me when everything was back up on their end. However I showed up as they were calling.

I never said that Koodo charges extra. I am aware that you can bank extra "tab" but with Koodo every bill is 90% bill and 10% subsidy. Do you understand what i am saying? If you could take the built up tab and exchange it for money, it would be great but you can't so it's still a subsidy.

Provided that you are using it correctly WiFi will not affect data usage. You may wish to turn off the data on the phone though, many phone will automatically switch if the WiFi connection drops.

I got the Blackberry. So far it's good, I've found a couple of dead zones, but they were places that I barely got signal before. However it switches to roaming which I find slightly unnerving considering it's down town and I was 6 feet from where I had signal. But I have had no major issues.

Coverage zones will be expanding, the have the licenses for the majority of Canada. They are building their network so it will get larger over time.

well if you are using tethering to replace your internet then yes you probably hit it pretty fast if you are downloading lots of stuff, however normal usage it should last for a bit. They said they would throttle depending on network traffic, but considering that the service is fairly new, the network traffic should be light.

Does the time automatically set? If the time isn't being corrected then it may be reading the network but not connecting to it. I had the issue with my Blackberry the first day. Seeing as the hard reboot didn't work call tech support, if you haven't already done so.

The deadzones are understandable deadzones. I was in the basement of Honest Ed's. I could barely pick up the Roger's signal in there when I was using them. It was just how easily it switched over that concerned me. I'll have to check my setting to see if I can get it to notify me somehow.

The handsets are below market cost. To the get Blackberry from an unlocked dealer or from another carrier without signing a contract will cost $600 as opposed to the $450 that Wind is selling it for.

I don't see what the issue in your comment is. You're allowed to tether with Wind, after 5GB in a month they *may* throttle your speed depending on network congestion. But tethering is cool.

people are looking for a plan between the two because they feel that they fall somewhere in between. They aren't looking at how much a plan that fits between the two actually costs on another carrier. My Rogers plan was in in the middle of the 1st and 2nd tier plans, however it costs more that the $35 plan.

I've used WM devices, and for awhile I stuck with them so that everything would play nicely. A couple of years ago I had the previous edition of the HTC that they are selling. I'd say stick with the blackberry, it's a bit more expensive, but I'd say it with the ease of use and the additional features that it's worth it. The touch pad on the BB that they are selling is fantastic.

How much are you paying now? You really should be looking at how the dollar amount compares with what you are paying now as opposed to if you need that much. I barely use 200 minutes a month, but my bill is more that $40 with Rogers. Do I need unlimited? No, but it was cheaper for me to get unlimited with Wind than 200 min + unltd E&W wit Rogers.

mccans, when I bought my phone last week I was given 3 options, no one said anything about doing a number change and port at the same time. The closest option was when number porting was up to come back in, cancel the current account and get a new one with the ported number. Today when I was in the guy I was dealing with said at the store he'd give me a call once the tech guys got back to him and that his goal was to have it ported by EOD tomorrow. They focused on the best value for specific price points. I had the $25 voice plan with Rogers that was 200 minutes + nights & weekend. My bill was never under $40. You shouldn't be looking at what you think you'll use, but how much are are currently paying compared to what you'll get with Wind.

While there are no charges for long distance in province some calls may still be "long distance", it really takes no effort to make sure every number that you program has a 1 in front of it.

Wind does not charge for outgoing within the same province or incoming long distance at all. If the GF was with a different carrier then she probably would get charged by her provider. The issue in teh original comment is that he needed to dial a 1 before calling her, just because Wind isn't charging for it, it doesn't mean that it's not long distance.

yeah, so after calling the tech support line I was told to do exactly what I was said I was going to do (head to a store, get new sim and set up my account again)if I didn't get a proper resolution. However it appears that level one is not aware of this as they transferred me to another department where I spent 20 minutes on hold. Everyone was very nice, and helpful, although it was a but of a hassle.

If you are in Calgary, you would not have any long distance charges within the province of Alberta, if you are in Vancouver then no LD in BC.

yes. You can port from landline to mobile and vice versa. However a landline transfer can take a couple of days.

Home Zone is the current Wind network, once you leave that coverage you are roaming and will have to pay associated fee. As the network expands so will the home zone.

youtube isn't blocked it just isn't compatible with the BB 9700 software. As such it comes up as blocked. It's not a Wind problem it's a RIM problem.

The issue is being reported with T-mobile users as well, Blackberry internet runs through the BIS server over at RIM. If you are using WiFi, then you aren't running through the BIS server. If you aren't running through the BIS server then you won't have the issues with compatibility that RIM is having. So to sum it all up, it's a RIM issue, not a problem with the Wind network.

and Braddock, the Google Maps app runs much better than Blackberry maps. I've had problems with using the GOS on the blackberry maps, but not with google.

I had my phone activated the first day and was unable to port my number. The solution I was given was to head back to a wind store, get a new sim and they would port my number to the new sim. There should be no issue porting your number after you have already activated the phone. A lot of people were given that work around when number porting was not up and running.

You can get the sim cards from wind, provided you have a compatible phone. Take your phone in to a store and they will make sure that it works with their network.

I've had a Wind phone since day one, I had a few problem the first couple of weeks but that was due to porting issues. there have been some minor network issues but it is understandable considering they are still working out the kinks. Unless I'm hanging out in underground parking lots I've had no problem with it.

When I activated in the store they asked me if there was any specific number that I wanted, no extra charge, it may depends on the rep you talk to at the time of activation, or the charge could be for switching the number after you've already activated.

it actually is a Rim issue and not a Wind issue. It has to do with data flow through with the BIS server over at Rim.

I spoke with Aileen at the Wind launch, she said they remove things if they are racist, extremely incorrect information or slandering members, pretty much things violating the TOA. The only things I've noticed have been duplicate "cut 'n' paste" posts, and that string of "first, second, etc" that was on one of the blog posts.

Any outward facing call centre would benefit from having multilingual staff. The problem is price, Wind is just starting, and although they are backed by foreign money, anyone who is multilingual can leverage that to receive a higher pay cheque when if comes to call centres. I understand if they have not gone out of their way to acquire people who are multilingual for the sole reason of start-up cost control.

Wind phones are selling for less than retail and without a contract, and they have stated that after three months of use they will unlock the phone. Other carriers sell the same phones without contract for more than Wind, and will not unlock their phones. So what exactly is your problem?

I've ordered from them as well, the service was terrible and you definitely need to purchase the warranty from them. I didn't the phones that both my brother and I had crapped out in less than a year. I had better luck with the knock off I bought in Chinatown.

I still stand by my original view, if it it is correct that it will go to a message stating that my voice mail hasn't been set up, then it means whoever is calling will have disconnected, if I left my phone in another room or at my desk then I will have missed the call, and considering there are a lot of people with blocked numbers I'm left in the dark. MySpace is insanely huge in the states, as such due to a larger market RIM created an app, if Twitter got big sooner Rim would have had an app out by now. Canada will always be a secondary market to the states, so th ebundled thing we get generally are targetted more for the US.

Most AWS enabled handsets right now have GSM as well due to the need to roam on other network or because companies are upgrading their current networks. If you port your number before the end of the month you'll get a $150 credit to your bill, this will offset the cost of any phone you purchase.

received the error a fair amount after the network in Toronto went live. It basically means that either part of the network is down or it is stressed and you are unable to connect. Call Wind to report it.

Wind unlocking competitors phone would be abused by scammers and help contribute to the black market trade of people entering a contract with false information and selling the phone elsewhere.

I doubt that BlockBuster would be closing the store with the Wind kiosk in them. Most likely those are what is keeping the locations running.

You need to do it, I had to do it with mine. You can call tech support if you are nervous and they will walk you through it. And if the message on the phone says "Call Forwarding Conditional" it just means that the person you are calling has voice mail.

Call your bank, or go into Wind with a print off of the statement. I used to refund these things all the time at my last job. It takes like 2 minutes to fix, although depending on your financial institution it may take a couple of days for it to reach your account.

if your Rogers account is still active just tell them when you call to activate it they will asked for your account number, if you are doing it at a store bring a copy of your Rogers bill with you and tell them you want to port your number over.

It's true, wait until they roll out service before buying it. If you can't use the phone you won't know if you like it, and I can assure you that by the time they roll out service you will have gone past the returns deadline. Hold tight, wait until they announce service, chances are they will have a bigger selection of phones by then.

The home zone is the reach of their network. It will grow bigger as their network grows. If you leave that area you are using Rogers which is why it costs extra, that money is going to Rogers not Wind.

I'm I've yet to get a roaming signal here. I'mm connected to t-mobile for emergency only, but I've been down here a week and have yet to get roaming.
