There is a lot of buzz....that can't be under estimated. Let's hope cabinet sees the forest, despite the trees and over rules CRTC's decision. The trees being foreign money/ownership, rules and what ever other band wagon people are jumping on that is against what Canadians truly want. The forest being Canada's disadvantage on the global market. The bigger picture is that Canadians want more bang for their buck. We aren't getting that with the status quo. OMG......yesterday was the first time I glanced your site and today was the first time I actually had a chance to read it.....experience it. I can't believe how much it resonates with me. I hear you. I've been saying that for a long time. They tell you what you need instead of what would you like? Or how about this one? Has "Customer Retention" rewarded you for your loyalty lately. I hope that Wind Mobile does not have a "Customer Retention" department. That would just be annoying. I believe in the philosophy that if you are truly providing what the customer wants, you don't need to retain them because they won't go anywhere.

Totally annoying!!! How stupid do they think people are? It's not like they really offer you anything substantial considering you bought an insurance and 3 phones in a roll were "water damaged" to which I say.......how can that be......to then be sold another phone that they try to lock you in for 3 more years......and oh yeah......you hate the plan they offered you to begin with.

Listen to Lawerance on BNN. There's a point in law when you over rule a precendent in Telecom with precedents in transportation and broadcast. I wouldn't be quick to jump to that conclusion.

You call customer service @ head office thinking they will refund you the $80.00 because you are a good customer and they don't want to lose you.......only to be told that they don't have any control over the retailers and that the refund of the $80.00 has to come from them and they suggest you speak with the store manager. Now you are ready to use bad language.......but as Canadians are generally respectful....you bite your tongue and say OK. You speak to the manager.....who is a little fish in a big pond......but has an ego problem and needs for feel ...

You call customer service @ head office to complain. Your call is escalated and you are sent to the "Customer Retension" department that tells you that because you were with them for so long they can give you X amount of dollars towards a new phone. The beginning part of my long story was about how I ended up purchasing 4 phones, but it didn't post. Great idea. I suggest more do the same. Be positive! Don't forget it was the government that was OK with the structure to begin with......it's the head of the CRTC that wants to put his legal foot print in the sand.......Dude's got an ego problem and his new word......"Precendential"..... for the precendent it's trying to set. Just a suggestion.....you might add....how as Canadians we truly feel that the CRTC head's ego is getting in the way of his judgment. Wanting to set a precedent he overturned a Telecom precedent in favor of precendents set in Broadcast and Transportation because he felt defacto was more defined in those decisions. Blade.....I suggest when you write the PM, ect...... to call for his resignation or to dissolve the CRTC...... keep in mind that the head of the CRTC wanted to move control of licensing to the CRTC and away from the government. In light of this decision....the control of the CRTC should be questioned.

Do not have the time to set up a site for that (I have eaten up a lot of time since the weekend on this and have to get back to my work), but it is an alternative that would be more palitable.

I think they should put it on cabinet and let them call for the resignation of Mr. von Feinckenstein or dissolve the CRTC. After all, this decision is in clear contrast to the direction the government gave the CRTC in the June 2007 Summit. The government told them to be less intrusive and get the job done. Industry Canada gave Globalive its blessing and the CRTC is undermining governments authority. I think Mr. von Feinckensteins impressive resume and life experience has gone to his head on this one folks.

It's all good. Don't let it bother you. Keep sending your letters calling for the head of the CRTC's resignation. The most 4 important are your MP, the Heritage Minister, Tony Clement and the Prime Minister. The big 3 are crying that jobs and services are at stake......they are going to blow things porportion. Don't under estimate the power you emails to the government. The CRTC is not taking their direction. Remember the Canadian consumer has to come first.

This is weird.....I got an interesting call from my telephone company today and another call from another company, re: long distance.......but spoke directly about my telephone company. I haven't gotten calls like that before.

Nuckhead......thanks. The talent being tapped into can not be under estimated. If I remember correctly........ in Tony's most recent interview I posted.......he mentioned how Orascom had twice the population of Canada as subscribers. They rank 15 in the world and have an amazing track record setting up wireless companies. The Wind Brand has like 10 years of experience in Europe. Yak Communications has about 10 years of experience. Why do you think the big 3 are so agressively opposing this company? It's because they know they are in for a rude awaken. Go Globalive! Let me reassure you.......I am more concerned about the bigger picture. I am attacking this from a wireless angle......but like I've been saying all the while.......there is a bigger picture. The CRTC is trying to "put its legal footprint in the sand" (quote by Lawerance from BNN) not just in wireless but across all areas. Think about it for a second. In the March 2006 final report of the federal report of the federally appointed Telecommunications Policy Review Panel......it recommended that the federal cabinet be given the authority to waive foreign telecom ownership restrictions when appropiate. You can't get a more appropiate time than now. The CRTC has drawn a line in the sand and is challenging the government's authority. My suggestion is that you look at my posts and write a letter to the Prime Minister, Tony Clement, James Moore and your local MP to call for Konrad von Finckenstein's resignation.

But Dave et all are not WIND. Orascom has a succeful track record, setting up wireless companies. The number of subscribers double the population of Canada. That kind of experience that is being tapped into scars the begebers out of the "incumbents". They know that WIND will give them a run for their money. Why do you think this is getting so political? The incumbents next will start threaten our services and jobs. Trust me guys........stay the course. We must see the bigger picture and make sure the story is told.

You guys have to understand that the spin doctors are at work. I just caught an interview with the CFO ??? of Telus. They are spinning the story. Keep putting the presure on these news agencies as well because I noticed that the Globe and Mail shut down the comment section again. Do an emailing blitz. It's not just going to come from Ontario guys.......it has to happen Nationally. Get the story told.

Globalive has not failed. This is but a hiccup in the road. If you listen to the spin the big 3 have the media put on it.........OK everyone is entitled to their opinion......but if you read between the lines and see what the governments goals are (which reflect more correctly the Canadian peoples view) .......... They wanted to drop the $2.00 extra fee for me on my internet. I politely asked, "What about the rest of Canada?" This is an interesting drama folks. Keep emailing, keep snail mailing, keep faxing.........all people in government.......heck go Provincially as well......don't forget the media. It's working people.....it's working. How many of you get a call from your service provider twice within a few days trying to save you money? They know we aren't going to stop.

This is how I opened my most recent letter to her. I sent you a letter yesterday, but I feel like you will truly understand what I am trying to express. I have been frustrated with the CRTC for some time and it's most recent decision on Globalive's application has pushed me too far. The government gives policy direction....the CRTC is suppose to implement......not make excuses to pad the pockets of their friends. What do you say of the fact that since 2006 the government has given crystal clear direction to the CRTC and the CRTC did nothing but stall and makes excuses since and have been coming out with outrageous rulings not just in telecom, but internet, cable, ect... and is now threatening that the stakeholder's are going to take their case to federal court re:broadcast and telecom under one act. One last thought.......since 2006 changes where supposed to be made to the "law" but the proper way to express that is that the government made crystal clear direction to the CRTC for less & "smarter" regulation and spoke of the drama continuing as a major shift was occurring in the telecom world...saying the technological & regulatory ground was moving under our feet. beniamino...I am sorry to hear that you feel that way. I encourage you not to give up. What looks bad today will seem a joke tomorrow. I don't believe the government can afford the embarrassment of not doing something about this situation. The CRTC is really making a mockery out of them and the big 3 think they are running the show at this point. Trust me.....the direction is to continue sending your letters because once all parties know how Canadians feel.....they will all want to represent their people properly.

Minister Tony Clement said in his letter that he wants further submissions other than what they already submitted. He's just being "fair"....... I wouldn't read too much into it. Just wait and see what happens, the fact that he is taking the initiative on this is a good thing. Every one in cabinet has to hear Canadians loud and clear.

There will be. Globalive has 90 days to decide what it is going to do. I think that because the Honorable Tony Clement is taking the initiative here.......that's positive. All I can say is just wait and see and in the meantime don't let up letting people know.

Government policies are always the rule of thumb for any regulatory body to implement. For example.....Municipalities have to implement Provincial Policy Statements, re:Land Uses in ther Offical Plans. That being said, when there is a disagreement on a Land Use plan being put through.......there is always the option of going to the Ontario Municipal Board which will default to the Provincial Policy Statement. The fact that Tony Clement is taking the initiative to review this......that is a very positive sign. As to timing......well he gave a deadline of the 18th. I look at that as a positve.

I know that there is a lot of discussion among MP's right now. I don't know if there will be much to debate......I guess we won't know until after the 18th......but what I can tell you is that the government took a lot of money for liscensing......I think it is very obvious that the CRTC is digging their heals in. What is going to be the outcome? That's a cliff hanger that we have to stay tuned for. But I know at OMB hearings......it is gernerally someone that initiates the hearing........not the Province. Repeal means to revoke or withdrawal formally....or to recind by an offical or formal act....that has not happened, so no worries. Since 2006, the government has made crystal clear to the CRTC what it wanted.......the CRTC is just coming up with excuses, not implementation or solutions......they are stalling. Why you ask? It's obvious.....the big 3 are pulling the strings.

np.......that's cool - something like we are bringing small business ideals to the big leagues. The fact that WIND has this site is interesting. I read in one of the newspapers the other day about Social (forget the exact term) sites like this being a new trend.......I think West Jet??? was the transportation one and there was another one..........not many companies are doing it yet. Anyway the thrust of the article was that it puts the company in touch with it's customers....giving it that personal touch. New ideas for a new generation.

I would be worried about a disconnect between retail stores and head office. I had a really bad experience that way with my provider. However, if like the McDonald franchises......it could be done. The golden arches have a lot in the way of examples of how something like that can work. I worked form them when I was 16......they have extensive training.

The Globe and Mail made the comment that just 62 per cent of the Canadian population had a wireless phone in 2007, ranking it dead last among the 30 members of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. At the same time, carriers here reaped the fourth-highest average revenue per wireless customer, an OECD study said last month. The article I just posted said Canada was 3rd highest ARPU. My point is that there is plenty of the market available for WIND.

RockJock........you are entitled to your opinion. Your view is more than likely shared by a few others that browse this site. I just feel, in my gut, that you are missing the forest because of the trees. I know for a fact that the CRTC is in a lot of trouble as it is and I believe that this particular incedent is going to be the staw that broke the proverbial camel's back. Canada can not afford this type of international embarrassment, nor can it tolerate a renegade regulatory arm. I think you are wrong on this one RockJock.

How is Glovalive different from Public Mobile? First of all, I have to wonder about a CEO that has the thinking/influence of Rogers and Bell for so many years. Not saying that it's a bad thing to have experience in telecom, but I really hope his plans don't mimick what the "Ro-bell-us empire" (love that title @Clumpen) offer. I wouldn't read too much into the last few sentences. He has to say that because those are the options. I believe this one isn't going away. It's interesting to see the process. What bothers me more than anything is it is not the public that is instigating this......it's the incumbents, not consumers....it's stakeholders. When they are revamping the Telecom Act......I think they need to take a good look at how stakeholder's can stall, paralyze, ect... they process.

I have many contacts RockJock.......and although they may not be as "into it" as I am, I've been getting very positive responses and well wishes in my endeavor. I even have people telling me to get into politics and they would go knocking on doors for me.......that is all over what I have done about this issue. Of course, I have no interest in that at all......however RockJock...there are professionals, common everyday people, university students.....people across the spectrum that feel exactly how I feel about the situation. One more point RockJock.........do you remember that commercial.....I think it was a hair commercial??? When you start with one person and they tell one person and they tell one person and so on and so on and so.....I used to love that commercial because it reminded me of the brady bunch how everyone was in blocks. I can understand how frustrating it is when you feel you are not part of the process and have no say. Although I don't know the particulars in this case, what I can say is that, in any municipality, cell phone coverage has become a service just as important as pumping stations, sewers, watermains, ect... I wouldn't say municipalities assuming those services is the answer, but I would say that cell phone coverage should be part of all municipalities offical plans (then it would be a public process). The issue at hand is not weather or not our government gets its taxes......believe me, they get their fair share, don't forget how much the government got for the amount paid for the liscensing to begin with. I have a pretty good feeling about this. It's just become too public...I mean too obvious what the problem is here. I think cabinet will make the right decision. Especially since the CRTC has approach everything with a stakeholder's first attitude. The government will have to put Canadian's first.

@Johnn spoken with wisdom. It is not evil to make money. Just because you know how to do it doesn't make you a bad person. As a matter of fact, those are the people you should watch. Besides if they are providing a service that we want.......taking risk......investing money, time and energy deserves a payoff.

I am hoping they will get to launch on time. I guess we will have to see if the government is ready to act immediately.......or if it will take more letters. In either case.....I wouldn't worry too much about it. There's plenty of the market up for grabs.

@Rob-if you compare that to what the profits of Bell, Telus and Rogers make, according to their subscribers....that's my point. We have just been hit with a global economic crisis.....I wouldn't worry too much about that.

I had 2 very close friends, both female, had families...3 children each under the age of 12 and they are gone and to watch the family pick up the pieces in the aftermath is heart wrenching. Especially the one family in particular. The little girl was 5, the youngest of the 3 and the other 2 were boys. I always had a big heart for her since.

I think what is being expressed in these kinds of letters is how the incumbents are making it very difficult for the "new way" to take effect. That being said, that would include telecom. I am sure that once cabinet over rules the CRTC.....the incumbents will challenge that as well, but I just see that being detrimental to the incumbents. They will be digging their proverbial grave. Canadians will say enough is enough. I can appreciate why you may feel that way, however, I see it as them saying....look...this isn't the first time the CRTC has done this...and because they are already embroiled in the other decisions.......they are saying we are on it. They can't comment on the CRTC's decisions yet. Things have to run their course.

Well regardless....I think the message is loud and clear that the government's goals have always been to promote a fair and competitive business environment. That being said...it's going to be a battle with the incumbents to put them in their perspective places. Cabinet better not decide against. I just thought of something. In a recent email I received, it appeared that the incumbents appealed CRTC's decisions....not reading too much into that after all the CRTC still didn't implement government directions....but I was wondering how to soften cabinet. Less pressue on CRTC....more pressure on incumbents perhaps......I always say you catch more flies with honey and let's face it, it is the incumbents that are the opposers. The CRTC is just showing it is cowering to the incumbents.

Guys....I am in no way forgiving the CRTC for cowering to the incumbents...and for not implementing government direction in a timely maner...and for taking it's guidance from the incumbents, but what if the CRTC perfered the government to tango with the incumbents? I mean after all, the incumbents are appealing CRTC's decisions with regards to wholesale issues, ect... I would feel differently about the decision that they made and more confident than ever that the government will over rule the decision. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out. Angelo.......if you aren't Canadian that's why you don't understand. That being said....it has nothing to do with foreign ownership. If you have been following the issues you would be able to see the bigger picture. It starts with the government giving it's regulatory arm a mandate and then it cowers to the incumbents because the incumbents appeal decisions. The CRTC cowered to the incumbents because the incumbents already appealed rulings it made in favor of wholesale access for example. That's softening things, but you have to listen to the Globalive hearing. Listen to the comments made by the incumbents. There are a few things that bother me about all of this. The first being that the incumbents can stall/paralyze the system. Another is that it appears that the decision was made on the incumbents opinion of what constitutes foreign ownership. That's why I think cabinet will over rule the decision.

@salinger....thanks...I don't feel that way at all. I try to read into letters like that. I try to see where the government's head is. Even if it sounds like a generic response. You have to understand that they have to be careful about what they say. I can sit here and spout off all day, stir the pot, start a ruckus and kind of evolve and feel my way through...I am not really going to be held accountable for what I say (at least I hope not-LOL). I am not in some sort of position that I have to watch ...

Maybe Public Mobile, Wind has no intention on selling out. Public Mobile's guy at the helm has years of experience with Rogers and Bell and he signed the letter with the incumbents. That guy will end up like Fido, but Wind....I forsee great things.

Now that is news worth reporting! When you are in Nathan Phillip's square there's a guy by the name of Richard Tomson that feeds the pigeons/birds there 3 times/week. The little birds hover and eat right from your hands. It's pretty awesome! Richard is pretty friendly.

@FairDairy - This whole foreign ownership situation reminds me of useless/outdated laws that are still on the books. i.e. - laws pertaining to parking your horse and making sure it has water. That's how outdated the foreign ownership laws are. There are ways around making sure that Canada's infrastructure is sound. Regardless, this company is a Canadian company, founded by a Canadian. The fear mongering that's been going on with regards to foreign debt/ownership is just ridiculous and any one with half a brain can figure that one out.

I was at my hair dressers last night. Now he's Italian and when he gets heated...it gets pretty lively. I got an email from my MP while I was there. So we got into "the conversation". @ Rob Heidegard - The incumbents don't either. They think we just like to talk a lot despite the fact that our land lines are free. I think that's ridiculous. Economists have fun trying to figure out how to price the service. You have to cover your costs, but when you are making billions and our ARPU is 3rd highest in the world you don't have to be an Economist to figure out that there is price gouging happening. Nothing that indicates when they are going to make a decision. I personally don't see what there is for the government to think about, but I guess.......that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Those articles drive me crazy. I am yelling at my computer just reading them. I have been saying from the beginning that the bigger picture here is the implemetation of the government's policies. The CRTC is not doing that. They have excuses. Their excuses are influence by the incumbents. What is wrong with the media? They have little threads of truth in those articles, but they miss the bigger picture. I know for a fact that the liberals feel the way I do about this situation. ARGGGHHH! That was an interesting article. The very first comment I made on this site had to do with putting language in provincial policy that would enable municipalities to put aside land uses for towers, which would cut through a lot of the potential hiccups that arises currently when a tower goes up. My idea has expanded now because I view telecommunications as a service as important as sewers, roads, ect... To have it accessable to all Canadians, there needs to be a serious overhall to achieve that and I do not think that the feelings of the incumbents should be ...

I added that Cabinet's intervention will be a blessing for the Canadian consumer because Globalive is the one and only company out of all the new entrants that are interested in what Canadians want and are capable of delivering. Nuckhead - you have an eye for these plans........I can never figure any of them out. I just end up paying through the nose for my phone. I have 3 phones and should only pay $100/month.....shared minutes......so much data........so many minutes.....free incoming/after 6 and weekend minutes. But I never pay under $300/month. I just gave up in trying to figure it out and fighting with them because you never get anywhere.

However, I perfer to look at it from the point of view that the government knew it's goal and the incumbents have frustrated their efforts by influencing the CRTC not to implement policy direction from at least 2006. How else can the government make sure their policies are put in place? Besides, this has nothing to do with foreign ownership or playing fair. It has everything to do with the incumbents frustrating this new entrant. And for that there is consequences and I can't wait to see what happens.

You are such an _ _ _ RockJock. You are clueless. You can go ahead and fear monger, plant seeds of doubt.......but you are way off base. The CRTC is more interesting in stakeholders, no consumers........no rules were broken. Defacto is a very shady area to hang your hat on. It subjective.....too much wiggle room. In paragraph 34 of von Finckenstein's ruling......he himself admits that there is no deffinition.......then he tried to make one with his ruling. That is absolutely ridiculous and mocks the government. That's why I said they should call for his resignation right from the beginning.

@Clumpen - The whole Ombudsman thing.........I have serious beef with that. I have a huge problem with the 407 and I have to take them to court now. The Ombudsman's office was suggested in Mike Cole's report of 2006 (Ontario Provincially). It was suggested along with a lot of other suggestions for customer service/billing issues. I am being told a report doesn't mean that it's law. I don't want to get into much detail, but I think an Ombudsman's office is useless unless it has teeth. Which clearly it doesn't. Gloria Bigone speaks about rules....the rules were followed. The incumbents heavily influence the CRTC's decision. In paragraph 34 of the ruling even von Finckenstein admits that there is no definition of control in fact. He went out of his way to set a precedent. This is not about rules......it's about competition......and it is getting vicious.

That writer missed the point. It's not about foreign ownership, culture or anything of the like. It's about the incumbents wanting to keep a stonghold on their monopoly. Orascom has no more control over Globalive than a Canadian bank would had it loan the money. The issue is about frustrating plans of a new entrant and under the Telecom act/policy direction, there are consequences for that. 4G - Watch and learn. I have been extremely critical of the CRTC for one reason. They are influenced by the incumbents. They don't follow their boss' orders. That being said, it is the government that can and will step in here if they don't fly right.

Yes RockJock, everyone is...but they are not subject to the kind of review that was brought on by the incumbents. This public review was something that von Finckenstein implemented procedures for on a dime. It was not something they normally do. Which speaks even louder that they are influenced by the incumbents. The horse and pony show the incumbents put on was a disgrace. I could see right through what they were doing and I don't even work in Telecom. The majority of Canadians that listen to that can see it. I haven't even begun RockJock.

I have a budding actor in the family. I have to read Eric Morris' Books on method acting, ect.... pretty boring some may think.....but it is quite interesting. Also, I have a lot going on at work... a lot of prep...public meeting on Monday... an appearance before council next week and.........a few course at Construct Canada.... Although, Mr. von Finkenstein, said he was interested in finding the right balance in Legislative Reform, this ruling shows an imbalance. I want to point out also that his comment saying that he wasn't interested in thinking globally is in direct conflict with what I believe Canadian's want. We want to be competitive globally. The CRTC's ruling is the exact opposite of the clear direction the government gave them since the Telecom review in 2006.

I admire Sir John A. MacDonald, not just because he happens to be in my family tree through my father's side of the family, or the fact that he was Canada's first Prime Minister, but because of his vision. As an observer of this issue, I have my concerns about a Regional entrant such as Public Mobile. If the goal is for real competition to improve access to telecommunications for all Canadians, this has to be done on a National scale. I think Public Mobile will end up like Fido and sell out to one of the incumbents in a few years. The Prime Minister's, recent trip to India speaks volumes as to where the government is headed. Canada can not afford this international embarrassment. Canada needs to send a message that it is very much interested in Global opportunities. Canada has the opportunity to reinforce it's goals, by over ruling the CRTC's decision and allow Globalive to launch. This will ensure the extension of Sir John A. MacDonald's vision for all Canadians to be united...connected.

RockJock - Amusing ... I can be at times, but not about this. When Telus requested a public hearing ... something that was never done before and the CRTC could implement it on a dime, but hasn't been able to implement government direction since 2006 ... that is amusing. As for working with Wind ... you never know what the future holds.

In 2009 Mr. von Finckenstein again brings up merging Broadcast and Telecom to be governed under one Act and even threatens to go to the Federal Court of Appeal so the stakeholders could make their views known. He asks for clarity on the issue. He used the precedent set in broadcast over the precedent set in telecom. In 2009 Mr. von Finckenstein again brings up merging Broadcast and Telecom to be governed under one Act and even threatens to go to the Federal Court of Appeal so the stakeholders could make their views known. He asks for clarity on the issue. He used the precedent set in broadcast over the precedent set in telecom. The Prime Minister's, recent trip to India speaks volumes as to where the government is headed. Canada can not afford this international embarrassment. Canada needs to send a message that it is very much interested in Global opportunities. Canada has the opportunity to reinforce it's goals, by over ruling the CRTC's decision and allow Globalive to launch. This will ensure the extension of Sir John A. MacDonald's vision for all Canadians to be united...connected.

I used this quote today, “It is unfortunate when you have two agencies of the federal government [CRTC and Industry Canada] taking different decisions with the same facts.It is sad and I don’t think we look great from outside the country. " I don't know what Industry Canada has to think about. They already decided in March of this year that everything is OK. So what that the incumbents are breathing threat. In my opinion the lobbying shouldn't matter in this case. Industry Canada already made it's decision in March of this year. What is the Minister going to do? Say he made a mistake........that would be embarrassing. Just over rule the decision, let the incumbents posture and do what they are threatening to do and then chastise them under section 8 of the Telecom Act for frustrating the new entrant from competing. Let's move forward already.

@Powrrplay.......write Industry Canada.....call them........don't let them put you on to the CRTC or Service Canada.......stress that it is important to speak with Issues Managment or Mr. Clement himself because no one else is as close to the issue. Flood them with phone calls.....make them talk. Demand answers in a tackful way. They don't have a voice mail....say you will hold until you get someone that can speak to answer your questions because you are a very concerned citizen and this is a public interest issue.

angelos......I think foreign ownership rules are extremely important to Canadian Heritage. My problem is that Industry Canada and the CRTC use the same test to determine weather or not a company is Candian or foreign owned. The fact that Telus instigated a public review of Globalive's ownership.......and the CRTC implemented the frame work to do that........which it has never done before......that's where I have the problem because they made a mockery out of the government in doing so. I think it just validates that Wind is a real threat to them. Let them come on. I have a few questions for them. They have a perception of the way things should be... I have a perception of the way things should be... I am sure WIND has a perception of the way things should be. Let's face it... although things are going to be very competitive... things have to move forward. I am all for bypassing barriers. Let them come, it is entertaining.

The problem I have with your answer just confirms to me that the flury of activity set in motion something. So that's fine. I won't "beat it till it becomes hamburger". Tell your friends at the club they pushed my buttons. That is a pretty good motivator for me. They have accomplished the opposite of what they set out to do.

Michael Hennessy fascinates me. He seems to want people to pay attention to him and his accomplishments. Jim Johannsson... I can't say much about him because he never came back to chat. I gave Mr. Hennessy a little love on his blog the other day. I wonder what he thought of it. HMMMM... that reminds me... RockJock is someone that likes attention too. @vonfunk I agree with you. I think he is a smart guy too. He has those international stories on wireless down pat. I am just surprised he didn't show up yet.

How's it going? Actually, I started to look at my posts and noticed Ron had already answered the question for me. It had to do with my Blackberry and weather or not it would work on WIND's system. I noticed you didn't have an issue with foreign debt or you weren't terribly crazy about the CRTC. But I heard someone say the 65% equity does not mean ownership and/or control. CRTC approved the Canwest Goldman Sachs deal where Goldman had 65% of the total equity, 33% of the voting shares and 67% of the non-voting shares. So how is Globalive different???

That guy, Alex, don't even pay attention to him. He's just a wimp. First of all he buys outdated service... then he talks about how he didn't want to rock the boat when it came to the incumbents... then he tells everyone that selling out is the better business plan. I don't even know why the government sold him the spectrum to begin with. Afterall, he is not on side with the governments goals. His letter doesn't hold a lot of water.

Sorry about that. I got distrated. I don't know if you are away, but I posted a question on Howard's Forum about what people really thought the issue was as to why Globalive was refused by the CRTC. I asked was it the law? What it because they weren't playing fair? OR was it because the incumbents influenced the CRTC's decision? I was just curious what you thought about that. I mean after all. You sure do seem to know a lot about the issue.

Personally, I like the Blackberry line over the Iphone. The screen is too small to use all those app's. All you I phone lovers... don't hate me. Just stating a preferance. Although the technology behind the iphone is absolutely amazing, I just like things a little more simple.

The way I see it... depending on your plan... you should do the math. Find out how much it will cost you to break your plan vrs. how much you will save if you go with WIND. I am confident that you will probably save money in the end. Even if you don't save all that much, or it will cost you a bit... ask yourself how much do you want to continue supporting your cell phone provider. Afterall, I believe WIND's motto is, "We are bringing change to the wireless industry". Just food for thought.

Wind is a Canadian company. Operated by Canadians. Kind of like how there is Toyota Canada. I hear the founder of Globalive (the parent company) has been in the Telecommunications business for about 10years. Right here in Canada. Oh and he is very Canadian.

I know the Big 3 are desparate, I am sure their shareholders are raking them over the coals by now, but don't worry... there's enough pie for everyone. Once WIND's network has the bugs worked out a lot will stay with them based on principle. Speaking of principles, you say the BIG 3 are still going to keep their contracts? I think more people are like me wanting freedom and all. OH WELL... at least some things will change.

@Keithz I wish you all the best for your search to find a better provider than the Big 3, but if you think Mobilicity won't have Network issues, think again. The Big 3 can't even get their network issues ironed out, what makes you think Mobilicity will be any better? They will be even newer than WIND. Like I said, I wish you all the best in your search for a better provider, but as for me, I am happy with WIND's service.

@mccans I hear you. But I have seen dramatic improvements. I noticed the updates on the map. I hope Durham (especially Ajax) is getting some love next. @5Gs what there are several issues I have had with BELL over the years. There was an issue where they sold me insurance on a phone, but then said it didn't cover water damage and then I had to buy another phone to have the rep try to sell me the insurance again and said, "Oh but it does cover water damage"... RIP OFF!!! And of course they constantly change the plan you ...

BTW if you want smoother potatoes, just whip them a little more. You'll get the consistancy you want. Yeah I remember when that happened. That made him sad? That's too bad, what was he expecting from a new network? @5Gs the company has been pretty awesome so far. I am excited to hear they are expanding into Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancover. I am still their cheerleader from the sidelines.

@Windy N900 when I switched to WIND I decided to leave my Blackberry behind (that was a huge leap of faith for me because I loved my BB) and I decided to try the Windows based HTC Maple. I can select to have Twitter sent directly to my phone yet. Twitter doesn't have an option for WIND yet. And I haven't been able to figure out the whole tethering thing. I think I have to spend some time with it to figure it out, just haven't sat down to do it yet.

@justwanttosavemoney BELL's so called "Customer Service" can be extremely frustrating. My suggestion is that everytime you call, keep a log. Make sure the person you are speaking to gives their ID number and you record the date, time you called, the issue and the conversation. Then get it escalated. I know it is frustrating, but trust me, it works. Politely not let them tell you their rehearsed response and ask for a manager and their manager if that doesn't work. P.S. Don't forget Yak has internet...

They are expanding the network everyday and it's getting stronger. I am still waiting for them to hit Ajax, we have some service there, but the signal is not the greatest. Hopefully we are next on the list too.

It sounds like you know all about it. I just remember mccans posting a video of it before he bought it from the states. That thing is more like a computer that has a phone option LOL. What I got off the internet is that it has a 600Mhz processor (the same used in the Motorola Droid) that integrates a PowerVR SGX 530 graphics processor (OpenGL 2.0). Finally, the N900 runs Maemo, a Linux-based operating system. I hope you are enjoying it Windy N900

Well Canadianman16 if what you say is true (IF) all the more incentive to fix the issues. I don't think WIND's plan is to stay like that forever. No company should ever charge you for something you didn't rack up. I'm just saying, I haven't had any issues with overage charges.

I've heard people are unlocking the N900 and having success with it. Vancover's on this list for launching after Ottawa and Edmonton... I guess you have to figure out what you are going with.

@Canadianman16 I can understand wanting a clear definition of "otherwised controlled", but I think the government is simply defaulting back to it's original decision when it gave WIND the OK to operate in Canada. Both the Industry Minister and the Justice Minister told when to make changes in their structure and then said WIND was Canadian. It was the CRTC, that decided to listen to the incumbents definition of otherwise control. The CRTC is to regulate in the spirit the policy was written, obviously there is a disconnect between the 2 bodies. Let's have it all out in the open.

@Canadianman16 you hit the nail on the head. Mr. Clement said he wasn't changing policy. That's my point. The CRTC is to implement government policy and has not been since at least 2007. There is a disconnect between the 2 bodies. Both have a political adgenda. The government has it's policies and although the CRTC's job is to implement those policies and regulate in the spirit of those policies, the CRTC has chosen to be a renegade and promote it's own adgenda which favors stakeholders.

Yes Trottie however you keep leaving out 2 points. 1) The fact that the CRTC has not implemented policy direction and 2) the "process" as you call it was changed from the normal process. Do you recall that Telus was the first to write a letter to the CRTC to have a public process? That had never in the history of Telecom been done before. What did the CRTC do? OK Trottie, here' my problem with that logic. In the most simple terms. Assets = Liabilites + Owner Equity. Assets are what is owned. Now the cash injection goes under WIND because it is in the form of a loan which goes under Orascom... the shares Orascom holds are non-voting shares. Every loan eventually gets paid back. So tell me, where is the "controlled otherwise". I didn't deny that people knew there was a process, however, the process was changed to a public process something that was never done before in the history of telecom. The feeling of both the CRTC and the government being open and honest. I would suggest a time line to implement government direction is in order. That way in the future when the government's policy is for more competition, there will be less room for the incumbents to try to control the situation.

JustAWiseGuy I think we look at things from different perspectives. I expect the regulatory arm to do what it is directed to do. When it doesn't, I start to think that because there is a minority government, the CRTC tries to flex muscle which I think is ridiculous because it's job is to implement what the government's policy is. It doesn't matter what their political agenda is. That's a neutral opinion based on how things SHOULD work.

The legal facts are that the government could legally overturn the CRTC's decision. So they did because it wasn't in line with their policy on Telecom. I find this article actually interesting because Mr. von Finckenstein went out of his way to use a precedent set in Broadcast over one in Telecom when he made his controversial ruling on Globalive. I might even add here that Public Mobile's defense for wanting clarification sounds to be the same as the CRTC's stance of creating uncertainty is unacceptable in a marketplace where investment decisions often depend on the regulatory framework that will apply. I have a question for you Trottie. What was the penetration rate in that country? Because I know there is money to be made here in Canada. With the penetration rate being 65%... as a matter of fact I heard one of the guys from Orascom saying that the goal was to raise that penetration rate to 100% so there is money to be made here. Why would they pull out when there is potential for so much money to be made?

I've got a question. Isn't the penetration in Greece 180%? I mean I don't know the details, but I would focus my energies where I could make profit. Given that Canada's penetration is only 65% there is a lot of possibility to profit. So I wouldn't be too quick to jump to any conclusions.

This is ironic that you should come on here today with this. I actually just got an email from the Minister's office thanking me for taking the time to write his office on this very important issue. Again it was confirmed to me that the variance affirmed that Globalive met the Canadian ownership and control requirements of the Telecommunications Act. The determination was based on an assessment of the facts before the CRTC during the course of its public hearing into Globalive’s compliance. Bottom line is this. As customers get educated on the options available to them, by not treating their customers properly, they are digging their own grave. There's a saying... Beware, he who thinks he is standing that you do not fall. In this economy... nothing surprises me. RJ... seriously... no warning at all. There was a bill collector calling, we asked for details since we never had any Bell TV services. Today Bell said they were sending the bills to another one of our addresses, however, they were very well aware of what our billing address is. And no, these are all his personal lines.

Even if it was a tenant's service what does that have to do with us. Although I have not seen any documentation on what Bell is saying, verbally they say the services were in his name.

LOL Johnn... also, they said the service was at his cottage. But I told them that I could provide them with bills that show Shaw as the service provider and not Bell. They said that they couldn't verify a Shaw account. How stupid is that? I told them that I would provide them the bills as proof that our service was with Shaw and not Bell.

CSR said it was over $800.00 and said there is equipment (which we don't have). Then after speaking with me for a few hours, said she needed to speak with my boss and could no longer deal with me, even though I am on all the accounts as an authorized person. ARGGGHHH!!!!

They just said it was Bell TV service. RJ... those are the same questions I have. Why... if they knew all our details did they never contact us?

RJ... they knew our billing address. They did not contact us. If anything was sent (which I have no idea... because we did not receive anything) they did not send it to the proper address. Without any warning they cut off accounts that are on PAP I might add. Does that make any sense to you? Obviously they dropped the ball.

Also, why would we think of picking up any mail when all that we are responsible for goes to the billing address, not a rental property.

I saw a comment along the lines that ownership restrictions on content providers and telecommunications providers are so tightly linked that they could not be separated. Baloney! The debate about foreign ownership restrictions on telecommunications has nothing to do with culture.
