Can I bring my own phone to WIND?
Yes, you can get a WIND SIM card and service without buying a WIND phone, though your phone will need to be unlocked and compatible with our AWS/1700 Mhz/BandIV network.
If you have an unlocked, AWS-compatible phone, here’s what you need to do:
Bring the phone or data stick you want to use to any WIND store or kiosk
Have a WIND retail specialist check to make sure your phone will work on our service
Sign up for a WIND plan, buy a SIM card and activate both
You’re good to go!
Unfortunately not all of our special offers are available with SIM-only purchase – but you’ll still get our awesome rates on our standard plans. There may also be certain limitations on functionality, such as the ability to use International Roaming. To learn more, visit a retail location.
Do you have the Google Nexus One? What about the iPhone?
The Google Nexus One works with WIND's AWS network, and is sold exclusively through Google's web site (google.com/phone). If you're ordering a Nexus One to use with WIND, make sure to get the T-Mobile version that works on the AWS frequency. Once you have your Nexus One, stop by a WIND store and we'll set you up with a WIND SIM card and service at a reasonable price, with no contract and no hidden fees.
We do not have the iPhone. Apple’s current iPhone is not compatible with the WIND network, which is Advanced Wireless Spectrum (AWS/1700megahertz/BandIV). As soon as Apple creates an upgraded iPhone that can operate on our network, we’ll work on getting it, so stay tuned – or, write to Steve and let him know about your interest.

How do I activate my WIND phone?
If you already have a WIND phone and need to activate it and sign up for a new service plan, you have options. If you'd like to bring your existing number, you'll have to come see us in person (find a store here) or call us at at 611 from your WIND phone or 1-877-946-3184 (1-877-WIND-184). You can also activate online, and get a new WIND number.
I want to bring my own phone to WIND, what phones are compatible with your network?
Some of the phones that people are successfully using on our network include the Google Nexus One (T-Mobile version) and the Nokia N900. As more AWS-compatible phones come on the market, the options will continue to grow.
If you’re looking at bringing your own phone to use with WIND, here are some things to look for that will increase the odds of the device working on our network:
• Compatible with AWS/1700 Mhz/BandIV
• Works on T-mobile’s US network
• Not locked to another carrier
Our lawyers made us translate it into legalese, too: By activating services using your WIND licensed SIM card, you acknowledge receipt of and agree to accept and abide by our Terms of Service (which are included with the SIM card and are available here). WIND does not make and expressly disclaims any representations and warranties relating to the SIM card or handset and does not represent or warrant that any particular handset will work with your SIM card and/or that all services available to WIND customers are available on your handset. Not all phones designed to work on the AWS band will work your SIM card. Please check handset compatibility before licensing your SIM card from us.
I have a AWS frequency phone, how come I can’t use it at WIND?
Not all phones designed to work on the AWS band will work on the WIND service, unfortunately. Some phones are sold “locked.” If you are unsure if your AWS band phone will work at WIND, bring it into any store and we’ll check it out for you.
How do I upgrade my phone?
At WIND, you own your phone so you can upgrade it at any time you want – just come into a store and pick out the phone you’d like to use next. Once you have paid for the phone and activated it, you should be ready to go.
WIND does not carry the phone I want. Can I request that you carry a specific phone?
Sure, post your suggestion on the WIND Community – we’re always listening.
What is a Take Out phone?
Take Out phones expand your retail options and offer a new way of shopping with WIND that’s quicker and easier. Stop by any WIND store or Blockbuster, pick up a phone for "Take Out" and activate it at home at your convenience. Whenever you’re ready to activate your Take Out phone, use our online activation service, call us at 1-877-946-3184 (1-877-WIND-184), or stop by a WIND store.
Take Out phones make great gifts, too.
Now that I have a WIND phone, do I need a landline at home?
Depends. Many of our Customers use their WIND phone as their only phone service. But some Customers prefer to have both. WIND has provided E911 service at no cost on all WIND phones so you never have to worry about accessing help in an emergency.
I’m only 14, but I need my own phone – how old do you have to be to be a WIND Customer?
Anyone can join WIND Mobile Canada – there is no age limit.
I want to be a WIND Customer, but I don’t want to pay for my phone. Why doesn’t WIND have free phones like all the other guys?
The WIND Community told us you’d rather BE free than have free phones. At WIND, you own your phone so you can come and go as you please, no contracts to lock you in.
My birthday's coming up and I'd like to ask for a BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700 from WIND. Can someone else buy me a phone as a gift?
Yes, they can – all WIND phones can be purchased as a gift at any WIND store or via WIND Customer Care at 611 from your WIND phone or 1-877-946-3184 (1-877-WIND-184).
How many pictures can I store on my phone?
It really depends on the size of the picture file you are storing and how much onboard memory you have available in your device.
When you take a picture, you can determine the size of the picture file by setting the picture resolution higher or lower.
If you take a lot of pictures, or want to be sure you have plenty of storage room, we recommend you add a microSD™ card to your phone to pump up your storage capacity.
Can I move pictures from my phone to my computer?
A USB cable or computer equipped with a Bluetooth™ chip would be the easiest way for you to download pictures from your phone.
I want to personalize my WIND phone. Can I add my own ringtones? Wallpaper? Themes?
Sure, you can customize your WIND phone in many ways. Coming in 2010, we’ll be offering customized ring tones, wallpaper and many other cool features.
What can I do with my old phone?
If you have no further use for your old phone, please recycle it. We’re working on an in-store recycling program, and will let you know when we’re able to accept old phones.
Will WIND lock the phones they sell?
Yes, WIND phones are designed to be exclusive to WIND for now.
What is My Account PIN?
Your four-digit My Account PIN is created during the activation process. The My Account PIN allows you to sign in online, call in to the Interactive Voice Response system (IVR) and more. You can change your My Account PIN at any time online or by calling Customer Care at 611 from your WIND phone or 1-877-946-3184 (1-877-WIND-184).
Rats, I’ve entered my PIN incorrectly again and now it’s locked up – how do I unlock it?
